Exterior

The 2017 Ford Escape shares its new 6-sided grille with the Edge and Fusion sedan. Inside the grille there are two horizontal bars holding the blue oval. The exterior has also been upgraded with HID headlights and LED daytime running lights. The lights take sharp, angular shape.

The bumper has been equipped with a huge center cut-out with two small hollows. Fog lights sit below the headlights. What is also visible in the spy photos are front parking sensors and low-mounted air deflectors for the front wheels.

If observed from aside, the Escape resembles the current model a lot. There is a strong belt line flowing under the windows and kinking upward at the D-pillar. There is also a hard accent line running through the door handles, making the vehicle look wider. At the rear, the vehicle has received new taillights. The vehicle also has dual exhaust tips under the bumper and a 2” trailer hitch receiver.

2017 Ford Escape Interior

The spy photos of the 2017 Escape’s interior have not yet been released. However, heavy restyling of the current theme is expected.

The vehicle still sits on a compact platform with two rows and seating for five.

Enthusiasts say that the current version of the SYNC infotainment system will be updated, along with materials across the dash.

Engine specs and performance

Rumor has it that the 2017 Ford Escape will be powered by a 1.5-liter EcoBoost which debuted in the 2014 Fusion. This turbocharged engine should produce 180 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque, which is by 3 horsepower and 1 pound-feet of torque more than the current 1.6-liter EcoBoost. Despite the new engine, Ford is likely to stick with its 6-speed automatic transmission. New Escape 2017 with this engine will have acceleration from 0-60 mph for about 9.5 seconds with an estimated top speed of about 125 mph.

The same transmission will probably be mated to the expected optional 2.0-liter EcoBoost which is also found in the Volvo Sedan and the Range Rover Evoque. It delivers 245 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque.

There is also a 2.5-liter i-VCT naturally aspirated engine to be found in the basic Escape S.

As before, the Escape will come standard with front-wheel-drive while AWD will be an optional extra. They also announced the 2017 Escape Hybrid, the assumption is that it will retain similar driving characteristics as the 2016 Ford Escape model.

Price and release date

The redesigned Ford Escape 2017 is expected to debut in the last quarter of 2015, most probably at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, which means it will arrive to dealer showrooms by late 2016.

Ford isn’t likely to raise the price too high with the updates in comparison to the current model, whose pricing starts at MSRP $22,960.

When it comes to trim levels, the Escape should continue with the same three trim packages: S, SE, and Titanium.
