The Carroll Shelby name is synonymous with high-performing Ford Mustangs. His legacy continues even after his death. After a short hiatus, Shelby has brought back the Shelby GT with a more handsome look as well as more power. The 2019 Shelby GT will be available as coupes or convertibles and buyers will choose from any of the colors that Ford currently offers.
2019 Shelby GT Exterior and Interior
The new Shelby GT is typical of Shelby models; aesthetically, it looks more aggressive than the For Mustang it is based on courtesy of the new Shelby upper grille, front and rear bumpers, side skirts, taillights panel, rocker panels and wings, spoiler without forgetting its attractive stripes including stripes on the driver and passenger sides. It also features hood vents and a Borla catback exhaust that add a distinct sound. Shelby has added numerous emblems and badges to remind everyone that this is not a stock Mustang. These badges are also featured inside where they are embroidered on floor mats. Other features include engine caps, CSM dash plaque as well as engine plate not forgetting Shelby’s tech signature manufacturing plate.
Top trims add Ford Performance struts and shocks, illuminated doorsill plates, Gold finished wheels and White w/gold or Black w/gold color combinations. The Heavy Duty package adds a coolant tank, an extreme radiator, performance half-shafts, and wheel studs. Extra options include painted stripes, Shelby leather interior, a short throw shifter, as well as Shelby car cover.
2019 Shelby GT Engine and performance
The 2019 Shelby GT derives its power from Ford’s 5.0 L, Coyote V-8 mill. Mild tuning, as well as the addition of a Borla catback exhaust system results in power output of 480 hp, an increase of 20 hp compared to the Mustang it is based on. It is interesting to note that the Mustang Bullitt produces the same amount of power but costs a lot less than the Shelby GT does. The 2019 Shelby GT can be had with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 10-speed automatic system from Ford. There are reports that a more powerful version of the Shelby GT will be released later in the year; the said model will feature a supercharger that will bump power output to over 700 hp. The supercharged version will have a 36,000 mile/3-year warranty.
Performance enhancements include 20-inch staggered wheels wrapped in Shelby spec tires, Ford Performance springs, sway bars and caster camber plates.
Price and release date
The base 2019 Shelby GT has an MSRP of $61,345 while the top trims (Heritage and Premium) will have a starting MSRP of $66,345. These prices include the price of the base Ford Mustang. These prices are for manual coupes only; automatic coupes and convertible models will attract higher prices. However, one can have a similarly equipped Mustang Bullitt for approximately $15,000 less but most of the buyers of the model go for the prestige associated with the “Shelby” name. Every Shelby GT model will have a unique serial number that will be listed in Shelby’s official registry. The 2019 Shelby GT will be only available in select Ford dealerships in North America.
