For over a decade now, Shelby has been making world beaters out of Ford’s Mustangs. The American design house always surprises enthusiasts in the manner it manages to find ways of making the sports cars better with each new release.  This time round, the automaker decided to bring back the Super Snake wide body onto this generation’s Mustang.  It’s been over a decade since we saw the last Mustang with a wide body. In addition to the wide body, Shelby has hooked up the Mustang with a range of performance upgrades that make the new Super Snake a monster on the tracks. However, unless you look keenly, it is difficult to tell the model from the regular-size Mustang Super Snake. The new “snake” still features similar spoilers, side skirts and diffuser as the regular Super Snake. The 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby Super Snake Wide Body Concept was unveiled on May 20th during Carroll Shelby’s annual Tribute and Car Show in California. During the launch, Ford also unveiled the 2017 Ford F-150 Super Snake (reviewed separately), a performance-oriented, street-legal pick-up truck. The two “serpents” actually share the same V-8 power-plant.

2017 Ford Mustang Shelby Super Snake Wide Body Concept Exterior

As said earlier, the exterior of the wide Mustang Super Snake is similar to that of the regular Super Snake. The only major difference is the increased track size by 2.5 inches in front and 4 inches at the rear. The model also rides on 20-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot SportCup II wheels with a 12.5-inch width at the rear and 11-inch width for the front wheels. Other features include rear quarter panels, vented front fenders, a rocker styling kit, extended wheel lugs, rear control arms as well as performance spindles.

Interior

Shelby has not released interior details of this wide body serpent. However, I expect the model to receive an upgrade if Shelby decides to take it into production which I think is very likely. In case that happens, I would expect to see a large touch-screen. The screen comes in handy in reviewing one’s performance at the tracks as well as displaying importance details about the vehicle as one does his/her rounds at the tracks.

Engine and performance

As said earlier, the Mustang shares its engine with the F-150 Super Snake. The unit is a supercharged 5.0 L, V-8 engine that Shelby has tweaked to produce a whopping 750 horses just like on the regular Mustang Super Snakes.

Shelby did not reveal actual performance figures of the wide body serpent but regular models take 3.5 seconds to run from a standstill position to 60 mph.

The extra 4 inches for the rear track and 2.5 inches at the front enabled the automaker to enhance the Mustang’s handling. Handling is further enhanced by the vehicle’s fully adjustable coil-over suspension system and larger wheels wrapped in performance tires for extra grip.

Stopping power for the gigantic mill is courtesy of larger Brembo brakes that feature 16-inch discs with 6-piston calipers at the front and 14-inch discs with 4-piston calipers at the rear.

Price and release date

Being just a concept, Shelby did not accompany the Mustang’s release with an official price tag. I expect the automaker to take the model into production in the nearby future as the “serpent” has been received well by enthusiasts across the globe just for the few days it has been on the limelight.

Most people associate the name Shelby with tuned Mustangs and Cobras. However, the legendary tuning house also does soup up Ford’s most famous trucks including the 2017 Shelby F-150 Super snake. In a recent event, Shelby released a “souped” up version of the Ford F-150 all dressed up in Shelby’s signature blue paintwork with contrasting stripes. This is good news for truck enthusiasts who crave for a performance-oriented pickup that they can drive every day in town streets as opposed to the mean looking models suitable for the off-roads.  These enthusiasts will particularly be happy as they had earlier felt left out when Ford released the other “souped” up version of the F-150. I am talking about the  2017 F-150 Black Ops, an upscale performance-oriented truck for off-road excursions. The model’s name pays tribute to the members of the U.S. armed forces who sacrifice their lives to fight for the freedom we enjoy as a country.

2017 Shelby F-150 Super Snake Exterior

Straightaway, looking at the 2017 Shelby F-150 Super snake you can tell this is not an ordinary F-150.  Shelby has hooked it up with its traditional dual racing stripes that seem to cut the vehicle into two. There is also another stripe that stretches across the bottom part of the doors on either side. The truck also wears a Shelby as well as a Super Snake badge on the grille, engine hood, doors, tailgate and bedside panels.

2017 Shelby F-150 Super snake

The badging is Shelby’s way of ensuring no one mistakes your $100,000 truck for a regular F-150.

The grille, hood, side sills and rear bumper have been customized for the Super Snake.

The model rides on a set of chrome 22-inch Shelby alloy wheels wrapped in 305/45 performance tires for enhanced grip.  Other features include SHELBY Step Bars and painted vents and fender flares.

The model is offered in 6 factory colors to choose from.

Interior

The cabin is a “serpent’s” playground. One thing is sure; you will not mistake this model for a regular Ford truck’s cabin.  Shelby has featured its snake logos almost on all surfaces.  To start with, the model has a SHELBY CSM Serial Numbering on the dash. The center console lid carries a SHELBY Snake Badge. SHELBY Snakes are also embroidered on the headrests while the floor mats have SHELBY lettering.

The windows are deep tinted to provide your passengers with privacy from the staring eyes of onlookers as you navigate your serpent through the crowded streets.

In addition to these Shelby custom features, the model retains all the amazing convenience, comfort and practicability we are accustomed to in all F-150 trucks.

Engine and performance

Under the hood is where the model takes a huge leap from the regular F-150. The pickup truck carries a 5.0 L, V-8 mill with a supercharger. The engine produces 750 hp. Buyers can choose RWD or AWD. Shelby did not reveal the truck’s performance figures but due to the power, the truck will certainly be much quicker than its regular version. The engine is enhanced with a high-performance intake, new fuel injectors and a billet throttle body. Other performance equipment includes a carbon-fiber intake tube and a heat exchanger.

Its suspension, on the other hand, has been tuned for better handling and more balanced ride. The suspension system lowers the ride height and helps to sharpen the truck’s responsiveness. The engine is also combined with a dual Borla exhaust system that has polished tips. The system produces a sound that is sure to intimidate other road users.

Price and release date

To own this serpent, you will have to spend $96,880, adding extra options will easily see you part with over $100,000. Remember the entry-level RWD F-150 has a starting price of only $27,110 meaning almost $70,000 is for the performance extras. The price comes with a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty. There will be just 150 of the “serpents” so you better make your order now if you want to be considered. Deliveries will start in the second half of this year.

On January 19 at this year’s Ford Motor Company exhibit held at the Barret-Jackson Scottsdale auction in Las Vegas, Ford and Shelby caught us by surprise when they released a new 50th Anniversary model of the legendary “ Shelby Super Snake ”. The new model is said to represent the true American muscle car in its truest sense as it comes with a handsome body. It backs the body with a full-throttle experience that provides excitement to drivers at every turn. All this is offered at a very reasonable price of $69,995. The automaker claims that no other model on the market today offers this level of styling and performance for such a price.  In making the model, Shelby International were looking to keep the universal respect the first generation Super Snake gained in 1967 courtesy of its awesome performance; the same kind of respect that was accorded to the model in 2007, when Shelby hooked up the street-legal car with over 600 horses. With his model, Shelby International has managed to keep the company’s founding father bold spirit alive.  Read along for more information:

2017 Mustang Shelby Super Snake Exterior

The Super Snake is based on the Mustang GT. The exterior has a host of Shelby-engineered components. The new model comes with the Super Snake’s all-familiar bulging front hood with forced air scoops. The new scoops are however smaller than those on the  2015 version of the Shelby Super Snake. The grille has new mesh while a commemorative nameplate replaces the Shelby logo on the grille. It reads “50th Anniversary Super Snake” and features Carroll Shelby’s signature on top. The pronounced front splitter also carries Shelby’s name, a feature continued on the space between the taillights where the “Shelby” lettering has replaced the Shelby logo.

On the sides, Mustang’s splitters have been replaced with Shelby-made components. The rear, on the other hand, has a new tail panel, spoiler and a new diffuser.

The model also wears the all-familiar Shelby racing stripes, more badges as well as commemorative emblems throughout the body such as the one placed after the front wheel arches. This one reads “Shelby 1967-2017”.

The model will be available with Ford factory colors in addition to Shelby’s blue-and-white scheme. It rides on a set of 20-inch forged aluminum wheels that have either a black or a polished finish. The wheels are wrapped in special Shelby-spec performance tires.

50th Anniversary Shelby Super Snake Interior

No Shelby-built Mustang has ever embraced a luxurious cabin. This “rich” history did not end with the Anniversary Super Snake. It is however hooked up with a host of upgrades including a new gauge cluster with wireless gauges. Anniversary logos and seats are featured all over; they are on the seats, floor mats and on door sill plates. A special plaque is placed on the dash to denote the serial number of each model, a sure way of saying this is not your ordinary Mustang.

There is an option for buyers to have the seats wrapped in Katzkin leather. For those planning to take their “Serpents” racing; they can opt to throw away the rear seats in favor of a four-point roll bar.

The engine Specs and performance

Power is what matter most for these types of automobiles. Under the hood of the “serpent” is a Coyote V-8 with a displacement of 5.0 liters.  This mill is paired with a supercharger to churn out 670 horses. The torque figure was not released but expect over 600 lb-ft. This makes the standard Mustang GT’s 435 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque look conventional.

If you still want more “venom” from your snake, you can opt for Level 2 upgrades. This involves adding a Kenne Bell or Whipple Supercharger to bump power output to 750 hp and over 700 lb-ft of torque, the latter is yet to be confirmed though. Adding these level two upgrades makes the Shelby Super Snake 50th Anniversary superfast needing only 3.5 seconds to hit 60 mph from standstill. It completes a quarter-mile in 10.9 seconds. The mill can be paired with either a manual or automatic transmission system.

Price and release date

The fun that comes from driving a serpent that spits over 700 horses comes at a hefty price. The Super Snake 50th Anniversary Edition package is priced at $36,795. Adding the base Ford Mustang GT takes the total price of the serpent to $69,995. Adding level 2 upgrades including either of the Superchargers means you will end up paying in excess of $80,000 for the fire-breathing monster.

The 50th Anniversary Super Snakes will be limited to only 500 units so you had better hurry and place your order right away.

Competition

Being a one-off model, it is a bit hard to find a suitable mode that can rival the Shelby Super Snake 50th Anniversary. I can only think of the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat X, a one-off model that was created in 2015 by the Walsh Motorsport.

2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Exterior

Unlike the last generation, the new GT500 will go on a diet in a bid to improve its performance.  The model will benefit from a huge dose of aluminum and carbon fiber. The testing mule we captured making testing runs was heavily wrapped so we couldn’t make much of its styling.

2018-ford-mustang-shelby-gt500-fci-4

Heavy camo’ at the front is an indication that the model will feature a revised bumper with modified air intakes. The grille will also be revised to help channel more cooling air to the monstrous engine that will be tucked under the hood. The hood will also be revised to feature a huge power dome. At the rear, the testing mule feature a larger wing mounted on top of the trunk-lid.  The rear also features a revised exhaust system.

Other performance-oriented features include, bigger wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and Brembo brakes to provide stopping power for the monstrous engine. The aerodynamics details of the exterior have also been revised to improve the model’s performance.

2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Interior

The interior styling is still a mystery. At this point, I bet that the automaker is yet to design a befitting cabin for the GT500. However, I think interior designers of the GT500 cabin will draw inspiration from the GT350. In particular, the dash, center console and door panels will be identical to those of the GT350. However, the model will come with its own unique features to distinguish it as the top-dog of the Mustang lineup.

Expect a new infotainment screen and bespoke gauges tailored to help drivers monitor their performance on the tracks.

The model will also feature quality upholstery with attractive contrast stitching. Being not a solely track-focused muscle car, expect the model to feature a host of convenience features such as a sound system, an air conditioning system, rear seats as well as a rear camera.

2018-ford-mustang-shelby-gt500-fci-2

Engine and performance

Ford has not revealed the exact mill that will provide the juice for the new GT500. However, rumors doing rounds on the internet allege that a twin-turbocharged engine is the most likely. While this would be a significant move, considering a supercharger was used in the last generation. The new engine would be in line with the automaker’s latest power-train strategy. The “TT” lettering on the testing mule’s windscreen further points to the possibility of a twin-turbo engine.

Ford has already confirmed the engine will be used by the SVT Raptor. Like the GT500 testing mule, the SVT also featured the “TT’ lettering on its windscreen. Actual details of the mill are still a mystery but many enthusiasts argue a modified version of the 5.0 L, Coyote, V-8 mill is likely.

The GT500 will be the only factory-built Muscle car in the market powered by a twin-turbo. According to rumors, the output which is believed to be in excess of 700 horses (could reach 800 hp) will help the GT500 reclaim the top spot among factory-built muscle cars.

2018-ford-mustang-shelby-gt500-fci-1

Price and release date

Well, it is too early to expect price confirmation from the automaker since even a release date has not been set. However, the GT500 is on track to be the most expensive 6th gen Mustang. The model may cost as much as $80,000. According to rumors, the model will be built in limited numbers; thus if you want one, you better keep yourself updated about its development.

Keep it here for all the latest information about this and other models.

Competition

The 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will compete with other two impressive, factory-built muscle cars in the likes of Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.

2017-shelby-mustang-gte-fci-1

The idea behind the 2017 Shelby GTE is to offer enthusiasts the exceptional Shelby experience but for fewer bucks. The GTE is based on either the Shelby GT released in 2015 or the GT-H Hertz rental car. The ‘E’ on the nametag stands for enhancement.  Rather than rent, enthusiasts can now own their own GTEs. Read along for more information:

2017 Shelby GTE Exterior and interior

The performance enhancement recipe involves Shelby American picking a stock Mustang and then adding off-the-shelf parts from Ford Performance (previously Ford Racing). In addition, Shelby also adds some Shelby exclusive parts and tuning.

The parts used to enhance the model are listed in the Ford Performance catalog. The parts used include a cat-black exhaust outlet, a handling package which includes 19-inch alloy wheels in black matte, and an aero kit. Styling from Shelby America includes the signature Shelby vented hood and an extensive use of carbon fiber such as on the front splitter as well as on the rear deck spoiler. Both the upper and lower grilles have been modified. The rocker panels have also been upgraded.

The cabin on the other hand features numerous badges to show to the world that this is a Shelby GTE. The badges are featured on the dash, door sills, floor mats and on the headrests.  The GTE also comes with a dashboard plaque which displays the serial number of the vehicle, as the models are included in the Shelby registry.

The badges are also featured on the grille, engine hood on the A-pillars and on the deck-lid. To finish off the design are the all-popular Shelby racing stripes.
The good news don’t end there, buyers can choose to have their models tailored for regular road driving, track racing or both.

2017-shelby-mustang-gte-fci-15

Engine Specs and performance

The Shelby GTE is powered by two engines. The base engine is a turbocharged 2.3 L, EcoBoost mill which produces 335 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque up from 310 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque thanks to a Shelby-specific engine tuning. For more power, buyers will have an option for a 5.0 L, V8 engine which p[umps out 456 hp and 424 lb-ft of torque up from 435 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque courtesy of a Ford Performance Power Pack.

2017-shelby-mustang-gte-fci-4

Both engines are mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission system available in the regular Mustang GT.  The vehicle also comes with a Ford Performance Handling Pack as well as an upgraded exhaust system. For buyers looking for ultimate performance, Shelby will also offer a supercharger option for models with the V-8 power-plant. The supercharger bumps output to a whopping 750 horses.

2017-shelby-mustang-gte-fci-5

Price and release date

Buyers will have an option for either a fastback version or convertible version of the 2017 Shelby GTE. The standard Shelby enhancement package will see you spending $17,995 in addition to the base GT which retails at $33,545 for a total of $51,540. This price puts the GTE in the same region (price-wise) as the GT350 which retails AT $56,495. Going for the Supercharged Shelby GTE will push the price from the “affordable” region.

In addition to the supercharger, the model will also add a specially-tuned suspension, body components and other extra options not available for the turbocharged model or the regular V8. The models will be built at the Shelby American design house in Las Vega. Authorized North American mod-shops will also build the GTEs for customers across North America. Shelby also wants to take the GTE global and are already work is underway to release a GTE package for export.

The special Mustang is thus christened the “ 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 Ole Yeller ”.

The plane was made famous during air shows courtesy by Bob Hoover, a veteran pilot who flew the plane during the World War II. The Ole Yeller fighter plane still holds the prop plane record for flying coast-to-coast in the U.S.A. The record of 5 hours and 20 minutes was established in 1985. To back up this huge record, the special Mustang is arguably the fastest road-legal Mustang ever and is pretty impressive on the tracks too.

2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 Ole Yeller Exterior

The 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 Ole Yeller largely looks like a regular Shelby GT350. However, to differentiate the model from a standard Shelby GT350, Ford hooked it up with a customized livery beginning with its special badge mounted on the front fenders.

The model also features bright-yellow and gloss-black colors. The bright yellow color is adopted from the fighter plane.  The pillars and edges of the roof feature a black trim. The black trim continues on the hood bulge and on the base of its windscreen.

The Ole Yeller also features unique wheels and a gigantic wing mounted on top of the trunk lid. The wing is mounted to add down-force and it is made from carbon-fiber.  In addition, the wing features green accents which we can also see on the side mirrors.

To cap it all, the model is fitted with green lights underneath to further put it apart from the standard Shelby GT350. The Mustang is a sight to behold particularly when its underbelly green lights are put on.

Like the outside, the interior is also adopted form the standard Shelby GT350.  However, Ford has added some new features to help differentiate the Ole Yeller from the standard Shelby GT350.

To begin with, its dashboard draws inspiration from the aviation industry. It features aviation-inspired gauges and has a great ambient lighting (green of course). The model also features bespoke side sills, Recaro seats and floor mats with customized logos.

Engine specs and performance

The “Ole Yeller” carries a standard Shelby GT350 engine under its hood.  The mill is a naturally aspirated 5.2 L, V-8 engine which is capable of producing 526 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque.

The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox that channels the ‘juice” to the rear wheels enabling the model to hit 60 mph from standstill in 4.5 seconds. The model is equipped with a sport-tuned suspension to help keep it stable both in regular street driving and when trying the racer on the tracks.

Price

Last year’s 2015 Ford Mustang Apollo Edition at auction reached a price of $ 230,000. The Ole Yeller was auctioned on 28th July during the EAA AirVenture held in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The final bid for the model was $295,000, a tidy sum considering the standard 2017 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang attracts a $50,000 price tag.

The Ole Yeller adds to the list of 8 other Special Mustangs auctioned at the EAA AirVenture to support the organization’s educational programs. The first model, the AV8R was sold for a cool $500,000 in 2008.

There are those Mustang enthusiasts who enjoy a ride on the tracks occasionally and thus need a car that satisfies our daily routines and still has the muscles to quench our tracking urges when they strike. Well, that is what the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 is made for.

Then, there are those of us who want to have a feel of the tracks every other weekend and still drive home through the city streets flaunting our muscle cars on the streets as if we owned the city (The mustang’s unique exhaust sound particularly helps in this). If you are in such a class, Ford has you covered with the new 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R. The GT350R is specifically developed for the tracks but is still street-legal. Read along to find out what the “R” adds to the already excellent GT350:

2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R Exterior and Interior

Unlike the standard Mustang GT350 2017, the GT350R exterior is optimized for extra performance. To start with, the vehicle has received a redesigned front splitter as well as a huge carbon-fiber rear wing which help improve its down-force. The rear wing helps enhance the balance between down-force and lift. On the sides, you will certainly notice its red brake calipers which come in handy when bringing the monster to a halt.

Unlike the standard model which was offered with various performance features as options before Ford decided to make the standard for the upcoming models, they were all offered on the GT350R as standard. They include a rear spoiler, front-suspension springs, aluminum strut-tower brace, MagneRide (adaptive dampers) and differential coolers.

2017-Ford-Mustang-Shelby-GT350-FCI-1

The 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R rides on a set of 19-inch carbon-fiber wheels which is a rarity even among the more expensive supercars. At the front, the GT350R sports 19- by 11-inch wheels and 19- by 11.5-inch wheels for the rear. The wheels are covered in hyper-sticky Michelin Sport tires.

On the inside, the vehicle features leather wrapped racing seats which feature a red contrast stitching. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather and features red stripes. Red trim is also featured on the vehicle’s badging and stripes due to the colors racing appeal. Don’t expect convenience features and tech gadgets you are used to in your regular hauler; the GT350R is stripped down to the bare minimum to reduce space and improve its performance on the tracks.

To start with, the rear seats have been discarded and there is no freight flooring. Don’t even expect an a/c or a radio in this car. This car is purposely meant for the race tracks and the above features add weight as well cause distractions during racing when the driver is supposed to be fully concentrating on maneuvering the vehicle.

2017-Ford-Mustang-Shelby-GT350-FCI-12

The GT350R does not even have a rear camera so if you are that sort of a person who cannot reverse without a backup camera, then this is not your type of car, try out the standard GT350 which has more techs including driving aids.

However, if you buy the GT350R and after a short time feel you cannot live without the discarded features, you can still have them back  by opting for an Electronics Package which will set you back $ 3,000. In addition to the reversing camera and a radio, the package adds auxiliary gauges, a tire inflator, floor mats and a sealant kit.

2017-Ford-Mustang-Shelby-GT350-FCI-5

Engine and performance

The 2017 GT350R features the same engine as its sibling the GT350. The mill I am talking about is a 5.2 L V-8 engine capable of producing 526 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. The engine churns out all this power without the use of any turbo’ or supercharger. This displays the excellent craftsmanship Ford has used in creating this engine.

The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox which drives the rear wheels. In addition, the gearbox features Ford’s unique 3.73:1Torsen limited slip differential. The engine is also equipped with dedicated engine oil coolers.

Due to its less curb weight and more performance features, the GT350R will be quicker than the standard GT350.  Though official information on performance is not yet out, rumor has it that the standard GT350 can reach 60 mph from standstill in around 3.5 seconds. If this is true, expect the GT350R to complete the same run in under 3.5 seconds making it the fastest naturally aspirated vehicle on earth. The automaker has further paired the vehicle’s exhaust system with 4 tips which produce a new sound different from what we are used to. The exhaust sound is close to the sound to that Ferrari models produce.

Price and release date

Ford has not disclosed official prices of the 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R. However, we don’t expect the price to vary much from that of the current models. Currently, the 2016 standard model starts at $48,695, while the GT350 R adds $13,500 to take its price to $62,195. Adding optional features such as  a black painted roof adds $ 695, while a yellow paint costs $ 495, $ 475 for the ‘over the top’ racing stripes and $ 375 for a special car cover. Choosing all options will take the price to over $ 68,000.

Ford produces limited units of this model. Last year, Ford produced only 37 units of the GT350R. It is not clear how many models will be produced this year but you can bet they will be below 50. However, if you fail to get your hands on a GT350R you can still opt for its sibling the GT350 which comes with a similar engine and almost similar specs. In fact, the 2017 GT350 comes with performance features as standard meaning it has edged closer to its performance big brother. The models arrive in dealer showrooms in June this year.

The Ford Mustang GT350 has an enviable history that goes back to 1965 when it was first launched to the market. Along the way, the model has been one of the best muscle cars to step in this world. However, the Mustang has experienced stiff competition from other muscle cars over the years but has always managed to remain a step ahead of them all. Currently, the fiercest rival to the Stang is the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28.

Just recently in 2015, Chevy beat Ford in their own game by hooking up the Z/28 with an independent rear suspension but the Blue Oval automaker responded swiftly with the 2016’s GT 350 version. For the 2017 model year, the Mustang comes with a good deal of performance features meaning buyers can take their Stangs straight to a track field from the showroom.

However, this was not the case with last year’s model; buyers had to add extra cash for the optional Track Package. Buyers who specifically want their Stang for the track racing should opt for the track-focused GT350R. The standard GT350 is for those who want to ride their Stangs on the streets, country roads and form one time to another go for a thrill in the racing tracks. Read along to find out more:

2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 Exterior and interior changes

During the recent Ford press release, the automaker revealed that the Track Package will no longer be available. Instead, its features of the package which included an aluminum strut tower brace, the MagneRide which simply speaking composes the adaptive dampers, differential coolers and a rear spoiler will all be offered as standard features.

Though the automaker didn’t say what will happen with other features of the package such as the drive-mode selector and the front suspension springs, we assume they will be offered as standard. All these features are offered on the track-oriented GT350R meaning the GT350 is edging closer to the GT350R.

2017-Ford-Mustang-Shelby-GT350-FCI-3

The previous model’s other packages have also been changed. To start with, the previous Technology Package which featured among others the SYNC 3 infotainment system with a voice-activated navigation system, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats has been  incorporated with additional features in a new convenience Package.

This package can now be offered with the performance features which have been made standard. Previously, a buyer could not combine the Track Package with the Technology Package, an issue many buyers didn’t like. The automaker seems to have listened to their concerns in effecting the changes.

The Convenience Package even adds extra features than the Technology Package used to offer. Some of these features include a 9-speaker audio system, and softer door panels trim.

There is a new Package for the 2017 model year which is dubbed the Electronics Package. This package was previously available only on the GT350R. It adds a dual-zone climate control system, floor mats, a tire inflator, a sealant kit, a radio and a backup camera. However, all the Electronics Package features are included in the Convenience Package which is more expensive.

Engine Specs and Performance

There are no changes under the hood. The 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 features a Coyote 5.2 l V-8 mill. The engine is rated to produce 526 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. The power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission system that features a specially tuned Torsen Limited slip differential. The vehicle accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

The engine does not use turbochargers or superchargers which makes it among the best naturally aspirated vehicles in the world. A customized exhaust system with 4 exhaust tips is paired with the engine. The unique sound from these tips will leave everyone in awe wherever it zooms past.

Price and release date

Ford remained tightlipped about the new 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 price during its press release. However, we understand that the model might be slightly expensive than the current version with the optional Track Package included. Currently, the Stang has an MSRP of $ 48,695, adding the Track Package takes it to $ 55,195.

Close sources intimate that the new model will start at $ 56,495. The model is scheduled to hit Ford dealerships in June this year. Official prices will be communicated when the model nears the official on-sale date.

50 years ago, Carroll Shelby and Hertz decided to give their customers a special experience of driving unique edition Shelby Mustangs.  They partnered with Ford which supplied the V-8 engines.

Shelby, on the other hand, added extra performance and style while Hertz offered the public access to the high-performance vehicles via their program dubbed “Rent-A-Racer”. The first vehicle was known as the Ford Shelby GT350-H. The model became an instant hit the moment it hit the roads.  In 2006, the three companies partnered again to produce the 2006 Ford Shelby GT-H which earned the same “rock star’ reputation as its 1966 ancestor.

2016-ford-shelby-gt-h-hertz-FCI-2

Flash forward to 2016; the three companies are at it again. Joe Conway, the CEO of Carroll Shelby International said that the new model christened the “2016 Ford Mustang GT-H” is the most exciting Mustang ever to sport the Hertz black and gold livery. The model was launched on March 21, 2016 at the New York Auto Show.

The partners have repeated history again giving the new GT-H a classic and muscular look not forgetting more “juice” under its hood.  I bet the model will join its ancestors as one of the most coveted cars by classic car collectors.

2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H Exterior

The 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H has been hooked up with numerous bespoke features to make it stand out from the standard Mustang GT. However, it is not as aggressive as the GT350.

The first thing that catches the eye is its black exterior with twin gold racing stripes paint job. The design mimics the original Hertz “Rent-A-Racer”. Other features include gold stripes on the rocker panels along with the “Shelby GT-H” lettering. There are also several logos and emblems spread throughout its body. On the front fenders, you will find a Hertz Edition emblem. “GT-H” logos are featured on the grille, rear faux gas cap and on the trunk lid.

Further, to make it stand out from the standard GT, Shelby replaced its front splitter and rear spoiler with elements made with carbon-fiber. The engine hood is also specially crafted with vents and a big bulge at the center. To wrap up the exterior upgrades is a set of 19-inch aluminum wheels which are wrapped in high-performing Michelin rubber (255/40s at the front and 275/40s at the rear.

2016-ford-shelby-gt-h-hertz-FCI-6

2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H Interior

The interior of the new Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H is based on the standard Mustang GT. Only a few features sets the two models interior styling apart. They include “GT-H” logos on the headrests, customized sill plates featuring “Hertz Shelby GT-H” lettering and a numbered plaque on the dash.

The floor mats also feature “GT-H’ logos. These are the same features that differentiated the 2006 Shelby Hertz from the standard Ford Mustang GT. We understand that there is a “GT-H” logo on the engine, a rarity in rental cars. I bet this has been done to tell the 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H apart in case it is taken to a show probably by collectors in future.

2016-ford-shelby-gt-h-hertz-FCI-11

Engine Specs and Performance

Under the hood, the GT-H is motivated by a 5.0 L V-8 engine which also powers the Mustang GT. Shelby did not reveal details of its output during the launch. However, we can safely assume that the naturally aspirated engine will produce 435 hp and 400 lb- ft of torque just like the Mustang GT.

2016-ford-shelby-gt-h-hertz-FCI-13

If this is the case, the vehicle will then hit 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and run a quarter mile in only 13 seconds. The partners didn’t announce the vehicle’s transmission options during the launch; nonetheless, a 6-speed automatic transmission is probable to attract many people to get behind the wheels.

The engine also features a cat-black exhaust system from the Ford Performance. This specifically gives the model a throatier sound. A “Shelby-GT-H” engine plaque is also added as well as an engine cap kit. The chassis has also been updated via the Ford Racing Handling Pack which helps deliver a race-like driving experience. The package adds lowered springs, special-tuned dampers and revised sway bars.

Rental prices and release date

The 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H will be available for rent starting on the Memorial Day Weekend. These cars are only available for rent. Only 140 units will be produced and availed exclusively via the Hertz Adrenaline Collection at only select airports in the US.

Whoever rents this limited edition FORD Shelby GT-H will surely have a special experience behind the wheels.

2015 was a very special year for the Shelby Daytona Coupe.  It marked 50 years since the sports Coupe became the first American constructor to win an international racing title at the FIA World Sportscar Championship way back in 1965. In doing so, the Daytona Coupe outshone Ferrari which was the dominant force on the tracks at the time.

It was first produced and tested on the Riverside Highway. Upon successful testing, Carroll Shelby decided to build five more units to fight Enzo Ferrari at the race tracks.  Their great rivalry was at its highest point though Enzo’s superfast Ferraris were the dominant vehicles at the races with Carroll and his models taking tan underdog position which Carroll despised.

Shelby-Daytona-Coupe-FCI-10

The design of the Coupe was too controversial and most employees at Shelby Organization thought it would be a failure.  However, that changed fast when Ken Miles broke the lap record at the Riverside Highway during testing.

Shelby Daytona Coupe 50th Anniversary Exterior

On the outside, the 50th Anniversary Daytona Coupe is identical to one of the original models.  Originals models were slightly different from each other so the automaker to the design of one of them.  Though the automaker didn’t say which car it took, they said it represents all others.

The vehicles are offered in both aluminum and fiberglass bodies.  Buyers opting for fiberglass body shells will have an option for a polished aluminum finish which mimics the original 1964 prototype.

Shelby-Daytona-Coupe-FCI-9

Shelby Daytona Coupe 50th Anniversary Interior

Each of the models will have a premium black leather interior trim. The cockpit features special badging with 50th Anniversary logos and badges.  Carroll Shelby and the Coupe’s designer, Peter Brock signatures and a numbered plaque are also included on the dash.

Aluminum bodied Daytona Coupes feature a wooden steering wheel, leather seats and old-school and leaf spring suspension. Racing stripes and sound-deafening materials are optional. The models also feature Wilwood brakes.

Fiberglass bodied cars interior, on the other hand, is more modern. It features power steering, air conditioning, coil-over suspension and power windows.

The automaker adds that buyers will have a feeling as that of driving the original Daytona Coupes.

Shelby-Daytona-Coupe-FCI-4

Engine Specs and performance

Ford offers the Daytona Coupe as a rolling chassis without an engine. The engine is offered separately. The automaker pointed during the launch that buyers can install a different kind of motors.

Shelby-Daytona-Coupe-FCI-1

The original model was powered by a 4.7 L V-8 engine which produced 385 hp and 340 lb-ft of torque.  The engine was paired with a Borg Warner 4-speed manual gearbox. The model used to accelerate from standstill to 60 mph in around 4 seconds with a top speed of 190 mph which was pretty impressive back then.

Though the continuation series also features the same 4.7 L V-8, we understand that Shelby is offering a new aluminum block engine as opposed to original engine’s cast-iron blocks. The automaker remained us about its output figures but we believe it will be as powerful if not more powerful than the original model.

Due to its lighter weight and modern technology, the 50th Anniversary Daytona Coupe will perform better than its ancestor. The engines will be serial numbered from CSX9950 to CSX9999).

Shelby-Daytona-Coupe-FCI-5

Price

The Daytona Coupe is sold as a rolling chassis, meaning it can be finished by the customer or an authorized dealer.  The polished aluminum models were sold for $ 349,995 while the fiberglass models were going for $ 179,995.

You notice I am using past tense here because there is no chance of getting a model right now since Ford announced it would produce only 50 units and these sort of cars sell out hours after automakers start accepting orders.
