After a long wait, Ford finally released the 2016 Ford Everest. However, the 7-seater SUV won’t step in the US. The vehicle is produced by Ford Australia and will mainly sell on Australia, Asia and African markets. Read along to find out more on this monster… we can even call it a house on four wheels due to its huge size.

2016 Ford Everest Exterior

The 2016 Ford Everest is based on the Ford Ranger but offers more than the Ranger in all aspects. The vehicle has a boxy exterior profile. It comes with a trapezoid-shaped grille which is flanked by LED headlights and LED DRLs.

The vehicle also features body-colored front and rear bumpers. The front bumper is integrated with fog lights to aid in poorly lit terrains. The rear looks fairly flat with Rakish LED taillights that give it a more stylish look.

Under its belly, there is a body shield which helps channel air underneath the vehicle helping reduce its coefficient of drag to 0.389 which is the best in its segment that has the likes of Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. The vehicle is offered in three trim levels which are the base, the mid Trend trim and the top-of-the-range Titanium.

The base model also features power side mirrors with turn indicators, black roof rails, manual rear lift-gate, front and rear mud-flaps and rides on 17-inchalloy wheels. The Trend trim adds chromed radiator grille and 18-inch alloy wheels while the top Titanium features 20-inch alloy wheels, chrome door handles and mirrors and HID headlights.

Other features include an 8.0-inch touch-screen, a 4-spoke multi-capacity steering wheel and the automaker’s SYNC 2 (SYNC 1 on the base modes) infotainment system which features voice commands, satellite navigation, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity and climate control among others.

The base trim also features fabric upholstery, 50/50 split folding third row seats, and an active noise control system while the trend adds leather upholstered seats, leather wrapped steering wheel and shifter, rear privacy glass, front and rear floor mats as well as a 10-speaker audio system with a subwoofer and DAB+. The top Titanium trim adds manual lumbar support on the front seats, ambient lighting and power fold third row seats with 50/50 split folding capability.

Engine Specs and Performance

The 2016 Ford Everest comes with three powerful engine choices. The base models will feature a 2.0 L EcoBoost 4-cylinder petrol mill capable of 250 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission system. This engine powers the vehicle to run from 0-60 mph in 8.4 seconds and achieves a top speed of 155 mph.

This is the only petrol engine as the other two are diesels mills. The first diesel engine is a 2.2 L, Duratork 4-cylinder TDCi engine which makes 150 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. This engine has an impressive fuel economy (33.6 mpg) considering its huge size.

The second diesel engine is a 3.2 L, Duratorq 5-cylinder TDCi. This engine produces 200 horses and 347 lb-ft of torque. The two diesel mills are paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission system which offers SelectShift manual mode. A well equipped Everest can tow as much as 6,600 lbs which puts it at the top of its segment.

Price and release date

The 2016 Ford Everest is manufactured in Australia.  The vehicle is already on sale in Australia, Thailand and Philippines where it is a huge hit will follow shortly and then the rest of Asia and Africa.

The automaker has not confirmed whether the model will be offered in the US but I bet it won’t. The SUV doesn’t come on the cheap even on the Australian market. It starts at $ 54,990 for the base trim and can go as high as $ 76,990 for a fully equipped Titanium trim.
