A video of the model at the Nurburgring confirms that a hotter Focus RS is on the way.  To further support this view, is the fact that Ford really needs a hotter hatch than the standard RS to fill the rapidly growing performance-hatchback segment. With the previous Focus RS500 which was only sold in Europe having sold out, the automaker needs a new hatch to fill this gap.

2018 Ford Focus RS500 Exterior

The 2018 Ford Focus RS500 features just subtle visual upgrades compared to the standard RS but overall, the prototype features a more raked appearance than that of the standard RS. The grille and airdam look unchanged .

The front features a more dominant Ford emblem. The hood is also unchanged but Ford has added a functioning vent on either side of the center hump. Inlet surrounds are also new at the corners of the front fascia. The functional inlets help channel more cooling air to the front brakes.

The model sits much lower than the standard RS. The RS500 rides on new, 5 double spoke wheels with a black finish. At the rear, the hot hatch features new taillights design which features amber colored lights. The spoiler also sits lower and looks to be optimized for additional downforce.

Other features look identical to the standard RS. However, the model we captured doing testing runs was under heavy camouflage so a lot may change between now and the release date of the hatch.

Our photographers didn’t get close enough to capture the cabin. However, with the hatch being performance-oriented, I expect a host of weight cutting measures which may include throwing out the rear seats. The front may feature sporty seats with five-point harness.

For an improved driving experience, the vehicle may feature a flat-bottomed steering wheel integrated with a host of controls. An RS500 logo will replace the RS logo on the instrument cluster. Other features like the infotainment system may be carried over unchanged. Be sure to check back later for more information.

Engine and performance

Most likely, the model will be powered by a tweaked version of the turbocharged 2.3 L, 4-cylinder engine that powers the standard RS.  Well it remains to be seen how the how the automaker will achieve more power output from this engine considering it is currently rated at 350 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque in the standard RS.

I believe the engine will be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox; a new dual-clutch automatic may be offered as an option. Power will be sent to all the four wheels.

2018-Ford-Focus-RS500-FCI-2

Price and release date

Since Ford is yet to deny or confirm existence of the model, we are left with no choice than to speculate on the model’s price.  Most likely, the price of the Focus RS500 will depend on the features the automaker will add. I believe the Focus RS500 will have a price hike of around $5,000 compared to the regular Ford Focus.

With the current Ford Focus RS going for $35,900, expect the Focus RS500 to have a starting price of around $41,000. The model is expected to make a debut sometime in the first half of 2017 as a 2018 model car.

The 500 suffix on the nametag is believed to mean the model will have a production run of 500 units, a fete Ford has used in the past for a limited-edition of the RS.

Competition

If the rumors are true and Ford finally delivers the car to the market, it will go head to head with the likes of Audi RS3 and Mercedes-AMG A45 4MATIC, BMW M2, Subaru WRX STI and the Volkswagen Golf R.

Just the other day Ford claimed sweet victory in the LM GTE Pro category at Le Mans 2016, beating the likes of Ferraris and other top-rated race cars. Ford has followed up the win with the release of a special edition version of the GT that goes back in history to honor its ancestor that claimed the first ever Ford Victory at Le Mans. The model dubbed the 2017 Ford GT66 Heritage Edition will be a limited production.

In the 1960s, Ferrari had dominated the 24 Hours of Le Mans and until Ford won the 1966 Edition, the race had never been won by an American company.  Last year, at the Detroit Auto Show, Ford showcased the 2nd Generation GT to celebrate 50 years after its unique conquest.

Still on the celebrations, the automaker has now released another model specifically to honor the model that took the number one spot during the race.  This was the black and silver finished GT40 Mark II Coupe driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon. The new model is a modern interpretation of the iconic 1966 model. Read along to find out more:

2017 Ford GT66 Heritage edition Exterior

The 2017 Ford GT66 Heritage Edition is inspired by the GT40 Mark II which Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon drove to victory in 1966. The new model features its ancestor’s “shadow black” paintwork with silver stripes that run from its nose to the decklid.

The Shadow Black paint job is available in either matte or gloss which gives buyers something close to the original model. The matte finish particularly augurs well with the car’s exposed carbon-fiber package. The vehicle also features the number 2 graphics in Frozen White on its doors and hood. The model rides on a set of one-piece, 20-inch forged aluminum wheels. The wheels also wear a gold satin clear coat.

Compared to the standard GT, the GT66 Heritage Edition cabin has been hooked up with special features. To start with, the model features carbon-fiber seats which are upholstered with Ebony leather. The seats also feature pillowed inserts and a contrasting plow-through stitching which gives the cabin the all-unique vintage look.

2017-Ford-GT66-Heritage-Edition-FCI-8

Ebony leather is also used to wrap the instrument panel, headliner and pillars.  The shift paddles, instrument panel and the seat’s X-brace feature a gold trim. Ford has placed the “GT’ logo on the steering wheel and headliners. A blue webbing similar to the 1966 model is used on the steering wheel and seat belts.

The cabin also features exposed matte carbon fiber center console and door sills. The door panels also feature “#2” graphics to remind you of the original GT40 Mark II that won the 1966 Le Mans.

2017-Ford-GT66-Heritage-Edition-FCI-9

Engine and performance

Under the hood, the GT66 Heritage Edition features the same mid-mounted engine as the standard GT. This is the twin-turbocharged 3.5 L. EcoBoost V-6 engine which produces over 600 hp.

The power is channeled to the rear wheels via a 7-speed, dual-clutch system with paddle shifters. The model becomes the first GT ever not to use a manual transmission system.

2017-Ford-GT66-Heritage-Edition-FCI-3

Price and release date

Ford has revealed that the GT66 Heritage edition will be offered in limited numbers; however, the automaker didn’t reveal the exact number. Ford is already accepting orders but bearing in mind these types of cars sell out in hours, you will be lucky to get one. The models will be delivered to dealerships in December.

Ford did not say anything about the model’s price.  However, since the standard GT starts at $400,000, expect the GT66 Heritage edition to attract a price tag of over $450,000.

Competition

The 2017 GT66 Heritage edition will face rivalry from the Audi R8, McLaren P1 GTR and Acura NSX.

Ford started its operations in Australia in 1925. In 1960, the automaker launched the Falcon lineup of cars which have gone ahead to create a legendary history. In fact, some of the models in the lineup are among the most sought after cars by collectors. In October, after almost a century operating a factory in Australia, Ford is set to close its factory doors in Australia ending a 91-year long manufacturing presence in the country.  This means the curtain also falls on the production run of the Falcon lineup bringing its enviable 56-year long production run to an end.

The lineup will, however, go down in style as Ford is producing turbocharged and supercharged versions of Falcon Sprint models dubbed the XR6 Sprint Turbo and XR8 Sprint. This review is about the latter. The XR6 Turbo is reviewed separately.

2016 Falcon XR8 and XR6

2016 Ford Falcon XR8 and XR6

The two models have all it takes to become future classics among collectors. However, not everyone will get to enjoy these models as their production will be limited to 1,400 units comprised of  850 XR8 Sprints and 550 XR6 Turbo Sprints. 100 of the XR8 Sprints and 50 of the XR6 Turbo Sprints will be shipped to New Zealand. This limited production has left many enthusiasts on the cold as the models are already sold out even before their production commences. Ford should have built more.

Either the automaker has perfected the act of leaving its enthusiast craving for more or that its market research department is inadequate to predict potential sales. Am saying this because the automaker planned to sell only a thousand units of the new Ford Mustang but ended up receiving over 4,000 orders. Over a year ago, the automaker also left fan craving for more with the predecessor Falcon XR8 sedan. Read along to find out more about the new 2016 Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint :

2016 Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint Exterior

On the outside, Ford designers have paid a great deal of attention to craft an enticing exterior that goes along with the huge muscles underneath its hood. The vehicle as is the XR6 Turbo Sprint is based on the FPV RSPEC chassis. The 4-door sedan features specific features that set it apart from other members of the Falcon family including its immediate sibling, the XR6 Turbo Sprint.  These features are a silhouette black painted roof, wing mirrors and a lip spoiler.

2016-Ford-Falcon-XR8-Sprint-FCI-1

The 2016 Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint shares most of its other features with the XR6 Turbo Sprint. These include new-look fog lights, black painted headlight bezels and wing mirrors which are integrated with indicator lights; there is also a new deck spoiler at the rear. Air vents have also been cut out of the front bumper to help channel more cooling air to the monstrous engine inside.

It rides on a set of 19-inch wheels which are painted in gloss black and wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires which improve its traction. The wheels measure 245 mm and 265 mm at the front and rear respectively. I don’t understand why Ford reduced their width considering non-Sprint models of the XR8 feature 275 mm wheels. Next to the wheels are 6-piston and 4-piston gold-painted Brembo brakes.

The vehicle also features a number of “Sprint” badges like on the rear and on the side mudguard. Each of the 850 models will have a numbered build plate on the engine.

2016 Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint Interior

While the exterior is lovely, the same cannot be said for the interior. Its cabin looks plain; in fact, it is not so much different from the FG Falcon, a model sold 8 years ago. Ford could seriously have done better. The automaker features the same bland cabin for the XR6 Turbo Sprint.

2016-Ford-Falcon-XR8-Sprint-FCI-17

However, there are a few interesting features to pick out of the bland cabin. One feature is excellent upholstery of leather / suede mix on the seats. “Sprint” emblem is stitched on the seats to tell everyone this is not the standard Falcon, but the “Sprint’.

Other additional features include a unique gear shift ensemble, an electro-chromatic mirror which helps prevent the driver from being blinded by other drivers at night. There is a “Sprint” emblem on the shifter for manual models and another emblem on the gauge cluster for both manual and automatic models.

Just like the XR6 Turbo Sprint, the cabin also features a Sync 2 infotainment system with an 8.0-inch display screen that integrates satellite navigation, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity which I in turn enable Smartphone integration.  Ford has further included a dual-zone climate control system as well as a high-series sound system. Interior body panels compose largely of plastics which as I said earlier is a big let down from the Blue Oval automaker. Nonetheless, the cabin is not the Falcon XR8 Sprint’s best suit.

Engine Specs and performance

The drive-train under the hood of the XR8 Sprint is its bets “suit”. The vehicle is equipped with a supercharged 5.0 L, V8 engine which is capable of producing 462 hp@ 5,750 rpm and 424 lb-ft of torque from as low as 2,200 rpm to 6,250 rpm.

2016-Ford-Falcon-XR8-Sprint-FCI-9

The engine is paired to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission system.  Further, the drive-train features an overboost function which pumps output to 536 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque.

2016-Ford-Falcon-XR8-Sprint-FCI-8

Price and release date

Ford dealers in Australia and New Zealand had already taken orders of the Falcons Sprints even before the automaker announced official prices. The models have in fact sold off even before the automaker avails them in May. To make a kill out of the high demand, Ford hiked the Falcon prices by $ 6,500.

Therefore, 2016 Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint models with a manual gearbox start at $ 59,990 while those with an automatic gearbox start at $ 62,190 exclusive of destination charges.  The XR6 Turbo Sprint price, on the other hand, was hiked by a massive $ 11,500 to $ 54,990.

Ford is shutting down its Australian factories in November this year.  As the factory doors get shut, the curtains will also fall for one of the most loved Homegrown Ford performance vehicles, the 2016 Ford Falcon XR6 Sprint Turbo. This vehicle has an enviable history that dates back 56 years ago. The XR6 and its bigger brother the XR8 are loved for their excellent performance and affordability.

The models cost almost half the price similarly performing models sell in Europe. The automaker will build 550 units of the Falcon XR6 Turbo 50 of which will be sold in the New Zealand market. It is sad to see the legendary vehicle take a final bow.  According to Ford, all the models have already sold out even before production begins which goes on to show how much loved these vehicles are. All 550 models feature numbered build plates located on the engine.

2016 Ford Falcon XR6 Sprint Turbo Exterior

Enthusiasts won’t find it hard to identify the XR6 Sprint Turbo among other cars in a parking lot. The model features a number of changes that set it apart from the regular XR6 Turbo. The new vehicle is made of lightweight materials including a huge percentage of carbon-fiber that makes it lighter and thus more efficient and improves its performance.

2016-Ford-falcon-xr6-sprint-FCI-7

2016 Ford Falcon XR8 and XR6

At the front, the vehicle features a similar grille as that of the regular XR6 Turbo. However, the grille is flanked by new headlights with black bezels. Below the grille are new fog-lights surrounds and air vents which are integrated on the bumper. On the sides, there is a new “Sprint” badge on the vehicle’s mudguards while the side mirrors are body colored and are integrated with indicator lights. At the rear, the vehicle features a body-colored deck-lid with a “Sprint” logo.

2016-Ford-falcon-xr6-sprint-FCI-4

The rear also features a black rear deck spoiler. The Falcon XR6 Sprint Turbo rides on a set of 19-inch alloy wheels which are painted in black. The wheels are wrapped in 245 mm front and 265 mm Pirelli P-Zero tires. To bring the vehicle to a halt are 6-piston and 4-piston Brembo brakes colored in gold at the front and rear respectively.

Overall, the exterior looks quite aggressive. The vehicle is available in Solid Winter White with an option of Aero Blue, Smoke, Kinetic, Silhouette or Victory Gold shades.

2016-Ford-falcon-xr6-sprint-FCI-3

2016 Ford Falcon XR6 Sprint Turbo Interior

The interior is however not as exciting as the exterior. Most of the styling is borrowed from the 2008 FG Falcon. The cabin is full of plastic surfaces, which is a big letdown by Ford. However, this didn’t deter buyers and reports from the automaker show that all the models have already sold out. The steering wheel controls still don’t feature back lighting. Nonetheless, the cabin still features some unique equipment.

The 2016 Ford Falcon XR6 Sprint Turbo features a leather or suede upholstered seats. The automaker has added an electro-chromatic mirror which was a reserve for the G6E and G6E Turbo. This feature makes driving at night easier.  The cabin also features a dual-zone climate control which helps keep temperatures ideal. There is a high-series audio system for audiophiles. The gauge cluster features a “Sprint” logo while the shifter is unique and has a unique surround.

For connectivity, the cabin features Sync 2 infotainment system which integrates a navigation system and Bluetooth connectivity.

Engine Specs and performance

Under the hood is where things get lively and one of the reasons the Falcon XR6 Sprint Turbo is sought by many. It is fitted with a turbocharged 4.0 L, 6-cylinder engine which is capable of producing 435 hp and 424 lb-ft of torque.

The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission system. The drive-train also comes with a 10-second over-boost feature which pumps up output to 496 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. With this power, the Falcon XR6 Turbo Sprint runs from 0-100 Km/h (0-60 mph) in 4.6 seconds.

The engine is complimented by fuel injectors sourced from the FPV F6, a larger intercooler, unique engine calibration and a lower-positioned carbon-fiber airbox.

2016-Ford-falcon-xr6-sprint-FCI-5

Price and release date

As said earlier, all the 550 XR6 Sprint Turbo models have already sold out. Ford was selling the models at $54,990 before options. To take advantage of the sell out, dealers who have already bought the vehicles are reselling the models for over $70,000.

The models will be shipped to buyers throughout the year with the last model rolling out of the production line in October bringing an end to the Falcon lineup.

Though crossovers are slowly tearing into the market for hatchbacks, Europe’s demand for hot hatchbacks is still insatiable. Already Ford sells the standard Focus ST and Focus RS in the European market but still feels there is a gap they haven’t filled.  The automaker thinks there is too much of a gap between the ST and RS since the standard ST comes with a 250 hp power-train while the RS power-train churns out 350 hp.

As such, Ford needed an intermediate performance model.  Bearing this in mind, we immediately concurred that Ford had finally decided to bring in the intermediate model when we saw a mysterious Ford Focus doing its test runs at the Nurburgring testing cycle. Although details about the Focus are still scanty, all things point to the intermediate Focus model. Having already showcased an intermediate performance Fiesta i.e. the Ford Fiesta ST200 at the recent Geneva Auto show, a similar model for the Focus lineup seems likely. Read along to find out the information we have managed to gather about the 2017 Ford Focus ST280:

2017_Ford_Focus_ST280_FCI-1

2017 Ford Focus ST280 Exterior

From far, the prototype our spy photographers caught up testing looks like the Focus ST. However, on taking a closer look, one realizes it has an aerodynamic kit which is usually a reserve for racing vehicles. The new aerodynamic kit features a pair of winglets at each corner at the front and a slim splitter at the bottom of the front bumper.

2017_Ford_Focus_ST280_FCI-5

Unlike the front, the rear is not identical to the Focus ST. The automaker has introduced a fresh look to the spoiler as well as added a new-look rear bumper. To complete the performance add-ons will be a set of new lightweight alloy wheels wrapped in performance tires.

As said earlier, the new model will have a stiffer suspension which features new shock absorbers and springs both in front and at the back. There will be also larger brakes than that of the ST to help bring the slightly more powerful hatch to a halt.

2017_Ford_Focus_ST280_FCI-3

2017 Ford Focus ST280 Interior

As of this writing, there is no official information about the new Ford Focus ST280 interior styling. Our photographers did not manage to get closer to capture shots of its cabin. However, in order to bridge the gap between it and the Volkswagen Golf GTI as well as to justify a price hike the model’s cabin must be upgraded. Most likely, the automaker will derive inspiration from the Fiesta ST200.

If this is the case, expect the cabin to feature Charcoal leather upholstery on its Recaro seats. Others features will include new ST280 badges, revised door panels and repositioned controls and door handles. There will also be a huge touch-screen and illuminated scuff plates. The cabin will accommodate five passengers. Other features of the standard Focus ST will remain.

2017_Ford_Focus_ST280_FCI-7

Engine Specs and Performance

Under the hood, the upcoming 2017 Ford Focus ST280 will feature the same engine as the standard Focus ST. The engine is an EcoBoost 2.0 L, 4-cylinder engine. In the ST, this engine produces 252 hp and 270 b-ft of toque. The engine has been tweaked to produce more power in the Focus ST280.

Going by the nametag, the Focus will put up 280 PS which is 276 hp; a 24 hp improvement from the Focus ST. the engine will also produce 295 lb-ft of torque, 25 lb-ft more than the Focus ST.

As you would expect, the increased output translate to a better performance.   The new model will have a better acceleration from 0-60 mph. We expect the new model to do this run in around 5.7 seconds up from 5.9 seconds in the Focus ST but top speed is likely to remain at 154 mph. As for the transmission system, the vehicle will most likely use the same 6-speed system in the ST. We are not sure if an automatic gearbox will be offered. The suspension of the vehicle will be stiffened compared to that of the ST.

Fuel economy numbers are not available at the moment but we expect the model to return some impressive figures. We will notify you once this information becomes available.

2017_Ford_Focus_ST280_FCI-8

Price and release date

Since the vehicle slots between the Focus ST and Focus RS it is safe to assume that its price will slot between the two models.  The Focus ST starts at $ 22,000 while the Focus RS starts at $ 36,000. Therefore, a starting price of around $ 27,500 is likely.

The 2017 ford Focus 280 will be released to dealer showrooms in the last quarter of 2016 after a showcase in one of the upcoming international auto shows.  Most likely, Ford won’t sell the ST280 in North America.

2017_Ford_Focus_ST280_FCI-2

Competition

The Volkswagen Golf GTI is the ST280’s top competitor in this performance-oriented segment.

Ford is one wise automaker; even before the automaker has released the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor to the market, the Ford has already began racing the race-truck version of the F-150 Raptor. Well, what is the best way to demonstrate your truck’s off-road capabilities other than entering a slightly altered model in racing events?  Once the standard F-150 Raptor hits the showrooms it will be a hot cake as many people will have already seen its capability in conquering the most grueling off-road terrains in the U.S.

Already, the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Race Truck has competed in two events i.e. the Parker 425 and Mint 400 which are the first two out of six events that compose the Best in the Desert off-road racing series. Read along to find out more about this excellent “desert conqueror” from the Blue Oval automaker:

2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Race Truck Exterior

Outside, the truck looks ready for any terrain. At the front, the vehicle is equipped with a customized steel bar that helps protect the front  from damage in case of hard landings which are common in off-road racing. LED off-road lights to boost illumination on the off-road terrains are mounted on this bar.

The usual “FORD” lettering is featured on the grille. Other features like the front fender vents and skid plate are unchanged from the outgoing F-150 Raptor. Under its belly is a skid plate package to protect its underbelly from damage.

The truck rides on the same 17-inch wheels and tires that will be offered on the standard model. The wheels allow the vehicle to run with low pressures without the tires slipping off the rims. Though some pundits say the wheels are the ugliest beadlock wheels they have ever seen, I think they are just fine and excellently serve the purpose they are meant to. Furthermore, there is no beauty contest in the desert.  The wheels are wrapped in 35-inch BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 wheels.

A racing model’s exterior styling would not be complete without a complementing racing livery. The truck comes with various logos which include an EcoBoost Moniker, F-150 logo, the slogan “Built Ford Tough” as well as the “RAPTOR” lettering across its bed.

The cabin has been modified for racing purposes.  As said earlier, the cabin is fitted with a full roll cage for the safety of the driver and co-driver.  The Ford performance team also replaced the regular glass on windows with Plexiglas. Safety nets have also been added.

2017-Ford-F-150_Raptor_Race_Truck-NCI-13

The truck is also fitted with MasterCraft racing seats with 5-point safety harnesses that hold on to the driver and co-driver as they power through the desert at 90 mph or even more in fairly flat desert terrain. There is a fire suppression system in case the vehicle catches fire which has been witnessed on several occasions in desert racing. The cabin also features a contoured steering wheel with paddle shifters.

“Raptor” logos are also featured on numerous surfaces to remind you that this is a “Raptor”. There is also a dose of carbon-fiber accenting in the cabin.  The cabin is further fitted with race technologies to help the driver in navigating the unforgiving desert terrain. These features include a Lowrance GPS system, a Racepak digital dash as well as a data logger.

Engine Specs and performance

Ford has excelled particularly in this department.  Rather than hooking up the racing truck with a special drive-train, Ford uses the same engine as the production version. The unit I am talking about is a twin-turbocharged 3.5 L EcoBoost V-6 which is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission system. Though Ford has not revealed actual output figures, the automaker said that the new engine will produce over 411 hp and 434 lb-ft of torque which is produced by the outgoing Ford F-150 Raptor powered by a 6.2 L, V-8 drive-train.

To enhance its performance, the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Race Truck is equipped with Torque-On-Demand transfer case which divides power optimally between the axles. It also features front and rear Torsen limited slip differentials which divide power side to side.

The transmission system also features a number of technologies and performance features. First, it features the automaker’s new Terrain Management system which gives the driver six driving modes for different terrains. For on-road performance, you will find Normal and Street modes, and then there is a Weather mode for rainy, snowy and ice-covered terrains, Mud & Sand, Rock and Baja modes complete the package.

The truck will particularly use the Baja mode during the desert-racing series as the mode is specially crafted for high-speed desert riding. Secondly, the vehicle features a refined suspension system with enhanced springs to give the vehicle an elevated ride height. Further, Ford has hooked up the vehicle with 3-inch-diameter race-optimized external-bypass Fox Racing shocks. These features smoothen out the truck’s ride while still allowing for a greater wheel travel. These features go a long way in indicating how the production version will be well equipped for the off-roads straight from the automaker’s factory.

Price and release date

Since Ford has not yet announced official prices of the road-going F-150 Raptor, it is hard to predict the price of the race-going Raptor. However, since the model does not feature a lot of modifications from the road-going version, we believe the price won’t go up much.

The last generation most expensive F-150 Raptor was priced slightly above $60,000. Basing my guess on this price, I think the race-going Raptor could attract a price tag of over $80,000 and could even touch the $100,000 mark. You can catch up with the truck during the Laughlin Desert Classic on May 5th.

There are those Mustang enthusiasts who enjoy a ride on the tracks occasionally and thus need a car that satisfies our daily routines and still has the muscles to quench our tracking urges when they strike. Well, that is what the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 is made for.

Then, there are those of us who want to have a feel of the tracks every other weekend and still drive home through the city streets flaunting our muscle cars on the streets as if we owned the city (The mustang’s unique exhaust sound particularly helps in this). If you are in such a class, Ford has you covered with the new 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R. The GT350R is specifically developed for the tracks but is still street-legal. Read along to find out what the “R” adds to the already excellent GT350:

2017-Ford-Mustang-Shelby-GT350-FCI-7

2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R Exterior and Interior

Unlike the standard Mustang GT350 2017, the GT350R exterior is optimized for extra performance. To start with, the vehicle has received a redesigned front splitter as well as a huge carbon-fiber rear wing which help improve its down-force. The rear wing helps enhance the balance between down-force and lift. On the sides, you will certainly notice its red brake calipers which come in handy when bringing the monster to a halt.

Unlike the standard model which was offered with various performance features as options before Ford decided to make the standard for the upcoming models, they were all offered on the GT350R as standard. They include a rear spoiler, front-suspension springs, aluminum strut-tower brace, MagneRide (adaptive dampers) and differential coolers.

2017-Ford-Mustang-Shelby-GT350-FCI-1

The 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R rides on a set of 19-inch carbon-fiber wheels which is a rarity even among the more expensive supercars. At the front, the GT350R sports 19- by 11-inch wheels and 19- by 11.5-inch wheels for the rear. The wheels are covered in hyper-sticky Michelin Sport tires.

On the inside, the vehicle features leather wrapped racing seats which feature a red contrast stitching. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather and features red stripes. Red trim is also featured on the vehicle’s badging and stripes due to the colors racing appeal. Don’t expect convenience features and tech gadgets you are used to in your regular hauler; the GT350R is stripped down to the bare minimum to reduce space and improve its performance on the tracks.

To start with, the rear seats have been discarded and there is no freight flooring. Don’t even expect an a/c or a radio in this car. This car is purposely meant for the race tracks and the above features add weight as well cause distractions during racing when the driver is supposed to be fully concentrating on maneuvering the vehicle.

2017-Ford-Mustang-Shelby-GT350-FCI-12

The GT350R does not even have a rear camera so if you are that sort of a person who cannot reverse without a backup camera, then this is not your type of car, try out the standard GT350 which has more techs including driving aids.

However, if you buy the GT350R and after a short time feel you cannot live without the discarded features, you can still have them back  by opting for an Electronics Package which will set you back $ 3,000. In addition to the reversing camera and a radio, the package adds auxiliary gauges, a tire inflator, floor mats and a sealant kit.

2017-Ford-Mustang-Shelby-GT350-FCI-5

Engine and performance

The 2017 GT350R features the same engine as its sibling the GT350. The mill I am talking about is a 5.2 L V-8 engine capable of producing 526 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. The engine churns out all this power without the use of any turbo’ or supercharger. This displays the excellent craftsmanship Ford has used in creating this engine.

The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox which drives the rear wheels. In addition, the gearbox features Ford’s unique 3.73:1Torsen limited slip differential. The engine is also equipped with dedicated engine oil coolers.

Due to its less curb weight and more performance features, the GT350R will be quicker than the standard GT350.  Though official information on performance is not yet out, rumor has it that the standard GT350 can reach 60 mph from standstill in around 3.5 seconds. If this is true, expect the GT350R to complete the same run in under 3.5 seconds making it the fastest naturally aspirated vehicle on earth. The automaker has further paired the vehicle’s exhaust system with 4 tips which produce a new sound different from what we are used to. The exhaust sound is close to the sound to that Ferrari models produce.

2017-Ford-Mustang-Shelby-GT350-FCI-16

Price and release date

Ford has not disclosed official prices of the 2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R. However, we don’t expect the price to vary much from that of the current models. Currently, the 2016 standard model starts at $48,695, while the GT350 R adds $13,500 to take its price to $62,195. Adding optional features such as  a black painted roof adds $ 695, while a yellow paint costs $ 495, $ 475 for the ‘over the top’ racing stripes and $ 375 for a special car cover. Choosing all options will take the price to over $ 68,000.

Ford produces limited units of this model. Last year, Ford produced only 37 units of the GT350R. It is not clear how many models will be produced this year but you can bet they will be below 50. However, if you fail to get your hands on a GT350R you can still opt for its sibling the GT350 which comes with a similar engine and almost similar specs. In fact, the 2017 GT350 comes with performance features as standard meaning it has edged closer to its performance big brother. The models arrive in dealer showrooms in June this year.

With many traditional sedan buyers switching to crossovers, automakers have had to work extra hard to make the family sedan segment more attractive. This has seen extreme creativity in design and engineering with each automaker trying to come out at the top.  One such automaker is Ford with their family sedan, the “Fusion”.

Ford is actually a bit late in revamping its sedan as other rivals have already upped their game. The Fusion is a very important car for the automaker having sold over 300,000 units in the US alone this past year.  Ford plans to climb to the top of this segment from the fourth position they currently occupy. Toyota Camry is the best seller in this segment. To reach the top, Ford has added a Sport model to the Fusion lineup. Actually, Ford initially considered adding either ST or RS nametag to the Fusion but later decided it would be a little overwhelming for the Fusion.

Read along to find out more about this performance-oriented family sedan from the “Blue Oval” A American automaker;

However, Ford has barely changed the Fusion Sport exterior design from other Fusion models. It is only differentiated by a shiny-black grille, dual-outlet twin exhaust tips, a trunk spoiler and 19-inch alloy wheels.

The model features extra upgrades like LED headlights, LED fog lights just like other Fusion models. Other features like the hood, bumpers, front-fenders sheet-metal are unchanged from the current Ford Fusion.

Sliding inside, you will find a redesigned cabin that is more comfortable and convenient. Ford has done away with the shift lever on outgoing models in favor of a rotating knob. This has allowed a better access to its storage bins and cup-holders. Unlike other Fusions, the Fusion Sport features a S position which adds a more aggressive shift schedule that is also managed by new wheel-mounted shift paddles.

The vehicle also features front bucket seats upholstered in leather and perforated micro-suede.

2017-ford-fusion-sport-FCI-7

In terms of technology, the model has been upgraded. It features adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, automatic parking, automatic brake assist, lane-departure warning and engine stop-start.  Some of these features are offered as standard while others are optional.

2017-ford-fusion-sport-FCI-8

The vehicle will also feature Ford’s Sync3. The system features 4GLTE, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. One of its apps collaborates with the vehicle’s GPS and mileage information which helps locate fuel stations and AAA repair centers.  There are other apps such as Cityseeker which helps locate restaurants and clubs while the Eventseeker app helps identify events going down in the City.  4GLTE enables the driver to locate the vehicle in a parking lot, lock and unlock its doors, read its fuel gauge as well as start the engine via a Smartphone. The vehicle also features SmartDeviceLink (SDL) which Ford hopes will be adopted universally to enable all cars to “speak” in one language. Ford has labeled the App as their own Applink and it’s already in over 5 million Ford vehicles.

Engine Specs and Performance

2017 Ford Fusion V6 Sport adds some real muscle to the Ford sedan lineup. Under its hood, it packs a twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 engine with a displacement of 2.7 liters. This is the engine that powers the current F-150. The engine is capable of producing 325 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. At that level, the sedan

The engine is capable of producing 325 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. At that level, the sedan wallops the likes of Nissan Maxima, Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.  It’s also more powerful than the BMW 340i which produces 320 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque.

Unlike standard Fusion sedans which feature a front wheel drive system, Ford has hooked up the Fusion V6 Sport with a 6-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system as standard.

The model is also fitted with continuously variable damping which features a pothole detection feature that instantly softens the suspension to absorb unexpected potholes on the road.

The maximum speed of the new 2017 Fusion Sport is about 155 mph while acceleration from 0-60 mph reached in about 5 seconds.

Price and release date

The 2017 Ford Fusion V6 Sport will be available this summer (other trim levels will hit dealerships earlier in May). The Sport Fusion will have a starting price of $ 34,350 MSRP.

2015 was a very special year for the Shelby Daytona Coupe.  It marked 50 years since the sports Coupe became the first American constructor to win an international racing title at the FIA World Sportscar Championship way back in 1965. In doing so, the Daytona Coupe outshone Ferrari which was the dominant force on the tracks at the time.

It was first produced and tested on the Riverside Highway. Upon successful testing, Carroll Shelby decided to build five more units to fight Enzo Ferrari at the race tracks.  Their great rivalry was at its highest point though Enzo’s superfast Ferraris were the dominant vehicles at the races with Carroll and his models taking tan underdog position which Carroll despised.

Shelby-Daytona-Coupe-FCI-10

The design of the Coupe was too controversial and most employees at Shelby Organization thought it would be a failure.  However, that changed fast when Ken Miles broke the lap record at the Riverside Highway during testing.

Shelby Daytona Coupe 50th Anniversary Exterior

On the outside, the 50th Anniversary Daytona Coupe is identical to one of the original models.  Originals models were slightly different from each other so the automaker to the design of one of them.  Though the automaker didn’t say which car it took, they said it represents all others.

The vehicles are offered in both aluminum and fiberglass bodies.  Buyers opting for fiberglass body shells will have an option for a polished aluminum finish which mimics the original 1964 prototype.

Shelby Daytona Coupe 50th Anniversary Interior

Each of the models will have a premium black leather interior trim. The cockpit features special badging with 50th Anniversary logos and badges.  Carroll Shelby and the Coupe’s designer, Peter Brock signatures and a numbered plaque are also included on the dash.

Aluminum bodied Daytona Coupes feature a wooden steering wheel, leather seats and old-school and leaf spring suspension. Racing stripes and sound-deafening materials are optional. The models also feature Wilwood brakes.

Fiberglass bodied cars interior, on the other hand, is more modern. It features power steering, air conditioning, coil-over suspension and power windows.

The automaker adds that buyers will have a feeling as that of driving the original Daytona Coupes.

Shelby-Daytona-Coupe-FCI-4

Engine Specs and performance

Ford offers the Daytona Coupe as a rolling chassis without an engine. The engine is offered separately. The automaker pointed during the launch that buyers can install a different kind of motors.

Shelby-Daytona-Coupe-FCI-1

The original model was powered by a 4.7 L V-8 engine which produced 385 hp and 340 lb-ft of torque.  The engine was paired with a Borg Warner 4-speed manual gearbox. The model used to accelerate from standstill to 60 mph in around 4 seconds with a top speed of 190 mph which was pretty impressive back then.

Though the continuation series also features the same 4.7 L V-8, we understand that Shelby is offering a new aluminum block engine as opposed to original engine’s cast-iron blocks. The automaker remained us about its output figures but we believe it will be as powerful if not more powerful than the original model.

Due to its lighter weight and modern technology, the 50th Anniversary Daytona Coupe will perform better than its ancestor. The engines will be serial numbered from CSX9950 to CSX9999).

Shelby-Daytona-Coupe-FCI-5

Shelby-Daytona-Coupe-FCI-7 Shelby-Daytona-Coupe-FCI-6 Shelby-Daytona-Coupe-FCI-8

Price

The Daytona Coupe is sold as a rolling chassis, meaning it can be finished by the customer or an authorized dealer.  The polished aluminum models were sold for $ 349,995 while the fiberglass models were going for $ 179,995.

You notice I am using past tense here because there is no chance of getting a model right now since Ford announced it would produce only 50 units and these sort of cars sell out hours after automakers start accepting orders.

We all have been waiting for a Ford Fiesta with an RS badge only for the automaker to come out saying they won’t be offering the model. In consolation, Ford is releasing a new and more powerful Fiesta which they have dubbed the 2017 Ford Fiesta ST200. This new model was unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Auto Show. The new model improves power and torque compared to the standard Ford Fiesta.

The model will use the same engine as the standard ST but add an OverBoost feature. This pumps output to 212 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. To the American market, this sounds like a minor upgrade but to the European market it is a huge boost in power. This is because the European Fiesta ST is not as powerful as the model offered in the States. As such, the Fiesta ST200 won’t be setting foot in the United States.

2017-Ford-Fiesta-ST200-FCI-2

2017 Ford Fiesta ST200 Exterior

There are not much exterior changes compared with the standard Ford Fiesta ST.  The small hatchback looks aggressive from all directions. At the front, it features a large honeycomb grille with a black finish. The headlights flanking it look slimmer.  The front bumper is integrated with air intakes.

On the sides, the 2-door hatch comes unchanged compared to the standard version. The vehicle rides on black matte 5-spoke, 17-inch alloy wheels which do little to hide its red brake calipers.

2017-Ford-Fiesta-ST200-FCI-6

At the rear, the hatch features twin exhaust pipes with a chrome finish. The rear also features a black and gray diffuser. Ford has also hooked up the hatch with fine-tuned front and rear suspension springs and dampers. This has led to a 15 mm drop in ride height which has lowered its center of gravity.

2017-Ford-Fiesta-ST200-FCI-4

2017 Ford Fiesta ST200 Interior

The cabin is not so much different from that of the standard Fiesta ST. To start with, it features the same Recaro seats from the ST. However, the seats here are wrapped albeit partially with Charcoal colored leather with a silver contrast stitching. The scuff plates are illuminated while the seat belts feature a silver detailing.

2017-Ford-Fiesta-ST200-FCI-3

2017-Ford-Fiesta-ST200-FCI-10

Unlike the current ST which features its door handles close to the front while widow and mirror controls are farther back, the new ST200 features the door handle in the middle of the armrest while the mirror and window controls are now close to the front. It results in a much cleaner look that actually makes the cabin look more spacious. The storage pocket at the bottom of the armrest is unchanged.

2017-Ford-Fiesta-ST200-FCI-7

Its steering wheel, dashboard and the instrument cluster look unchanged from the ST. However the infotainment system’s control knob is larger. An ST200 badge has also been added to the center console below the climate control panel and just in front of the shifter.

Those are the major changes which tell the ST200 cabin apart from that of the base ST.

2017-Ford-Fiesta-ST200-FCI-8

For safety, the ST200 features an upgraded torque vectoring control and 3-mode electronic stability control. It also features an adapted rear twist-beam and an upgraded front steering knuckle for better cornering and improved agility. An enhanced braking system featuring a larger tandem master cylinder and rear disc brakes helps bring the hatch to a halt quickly.

2017-Ford-Fiesta-ST200-FCI-9

Engine Specs and Performance

Under the hood is where Ford achieves the real purpose of the ST200. The hatch still features the same turbocharged 1.6 L, EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine as the base Fiesta ST. However, the engine has been tweaked to produce more power. The new mill comes good with 212 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque.

This represents 18 hp and 37 lb-ft of toque more than the base Fiesta ST.  Things get even better with addition of a transient OverBoost feature which allows the engine to pump out an extra 15 horses and 22lb-ft of torque on demand for around 15 seconds.

Further, the automaker has altered the Ratio of the new hatch final gear. Instead of 3.82:1, the hatch now features a 4.08:1 final drive gear. The automaker remained mum about its performance figures but disclosed that it can hit a top speed of 143 mph, 13 mph more than the base Fiesta ST.

Due to increased power output and the smaller final gear; we believe the ST200 can run from 0-60 mph in around 6.7 seconds. Exact acceleration and fuel economy figures will be disclosed as the model nears its sale date so make sure to come back for more updates.

Price and release date

Ford did not also disclose the price of the 2017 Ford Fiesta ST200. However, we believe the model will be more expensive than the standard Fiesta ST.

The current Fiesta ST has a starting price of $ 20,970 and we believe the Fiesta ST200 could start at $ 25,000 or thereabout. The model will be released in the second half of this year.
