The Wildtrak is only offered in a double cabin body. Buyers will have an option between five exterior colors; they are Pride Orange, Aluminum Metallic, Black Mica, Metropolitan Gray and Cool White.

Sliding inside, you will be met by an SUV-like cabin that provides high levels of comfort and convenience as well as the latest technologies in the industry. The dashboard itself is wrapped in leather with Pride Orange contrast stitching. This stitching is continued on the door panels, center armrest and on the shifter. The truck accommodates five passengers on its leather upholstered seats which also feature the Pride Orange contrast stitching.

Unlike the standard Ranger, the rear seat provides plenty of legroom making it very comfortable. The driver’s seat is 8-way power adjustable and includes height and reach adjustment to enable a comfortable driving experience. The front seats are both heated.

On the technology front, the truck features Ford’s SYNC 2 with an 8.0-inch touch-screen display. In terms of safety, Ford has hooked up the Wildtrack with safety features that can rival a number of crossovers. These features include Lane Keep alert , adaptive cruise control which is not common in trucks, Driver Alert warning, Adaptive Load Control which works in tandem with the Electronic Stability Control, rear parking sensors, a reversing camera and hill descent control among others.

Engine Specs and performance

Unlike the standard ranger which is motivated by three different engines, the top-of-the range Wildtrak is powered by two engines. The first engine is a turbo-diesel 3.2 L, TDCi 5-cylinder engine which produces 197 hp and 347 lb-ft of torque.  This engine is paired exclusively with a 6-speed automatic transmission system that drives all 4 wheels.

The second engine is a 2.2 L, TDCi 4-cylinder turbodiesel which is tuned to produce 158 hp and 284 lb-ft of torque. This engine will have an option for a 6-speed manual gearbox in addition to a 6-speed automatic transmission system which comes as standard.

To help improve the engines fuel economy, they are both hooked up with an automatic Start/Stop feature. The engines are further complimented by an electronic locking rear differential which improves traction.

Price and release date

The 2016 Ford Ranger Wildtrak has an MSRP of $ 32,370. Though this price might seem a bit expensive compared to some crossovers, it is worth it as the truck balances mixes crossover, sedan and truck features helping you enjoy all the three worlds with a single model.

Competition

Ford is not alone in the luxury truck market. Other automakers have also realized that there is a promising market for luxury trucks and have already crafted their models to tap on this luxury truck craze. The lineup will, however, go down in style as Ford is producing turbocharged and supercharged versions of Falcon Sprint models dubbed the XR6 Sprint Turbo and XR8 Sprint. This review is about the latter. The XR6 Turbo is reviewed separately.

2016 Ford Falcon XR8 and XR6

The two models have all it takes to become future classics among collectors. However, not everyone will get to enjoy these models as their production will be limited to 1,400 units comprised of  850 XR8 Sprints and 550 XR6 Turbo Sprints. 100 of the XR8 Sprints and 50 of the XR6 Turbo Sprints will be shipped to New Zealand. This limited production has left many enthusiasts on the cold as the models are already sold out even before their production commences. Ford should have built more.

Either the automaker has perfected the act of leaving its enthusiast craving for more or that its market research department is inadequate to predict potential sales. Am saying this because the automaker planned to sell only a thousand units of the new Ford Mustang but ended up receiving over 4,000 orders. Over a year ago, the automaker also left fan craving for more with the predecessor Falcon XR8 sedan. Read along to find out more about the new 2016 Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint :

2016 Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint Exterior

On the outside, Ford designers have paid a great deal of attention to craft an enticing exterior that goes along with the huge muscles underneath its hood. The vehicle as is the XR6 Turbo Sprint is based on the FPV RSPEC chassis. The 4-door sedan features specific features that set it apart from other members of the Falcon family including its immediate sibling, the XR6 Turbo Sprint.  These features are a silhouette black painted roof, wing mirrors and a lip spoiler.

The 2016 Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint shares most of its other features with the XR6 Turbo Sprint. These include new-look fog lights, black painted headlight bezels and wing mirrors which are integrated with indicator lights; there is also a new deck spoiler at the rear. Air vents have also been cut out of the front bumper to help channel more cooling air to the monstrous engine inside.

It rides on a set of 19-inch wheels which are painted in gloss black and wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires which improve its traction. The wheels measure 245 mm and 265 mm at the front and rear respectively. I don’t understand why Ford reduced their width considering non-Sprint models of the XR8 feature 275 mm wheels. Next to the wheels are 6-piston and 4-piston gold-painted Brembo brakes.

The vehicle also features a number of “Sprint” badges like on the rear and on the side mudguard. Each of the 850 models will have a numbered build plate on the engine.

2016 Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint Interior

While the exterior is lovely, the same cannot be said for the interior. Its cabin looks plain; in fact, it is not so much different from the FG Falcon, a model sold 8 years ago. Ford could seriously have done better. The automaker features the same bland cabin for the XR6 Turbo Sprint.

However, there are a few interesting features to pick out of the bland cabin. One feature is excellent upholstery of leather / suede mix on the seats. “Sprint” emblem is stitched on the seats to tell everyone this is not the standard Falcon, but the “Sprint’.

Other additional features include a unique gear shift ensemble, an electro-chromatic mirror which helps prevent the driver from being blinded by other drivers at night. There is a “Sprint” emblem on the shifter for manual models and another emblem on the gauge cluster for both manual and automatic models.

Just like the XR6 Turbo Sprint, the cabin also features a Sync 2 infotainment system with an 8.0-inch display screen that integrates satellite navigation, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity which I in turn enable Smartphone integration.  Ford has further included a dual-zone climate control system as well as a high-series sound system. Interior body panels compose largely of plastics which as I said earlier is a big let down from the Blue Oval automaker. Nonetheless, the cabin is not the Falcon XR8 Sprint’s best suit.

Engine Specs and performance

The drive-train under the hood of the XR8 Sprint is its bets “suit”. The vehicle is equipped with a supercharged 5.0 L, V8 engine which is capable of producing 462 hp@ 5,750 rpm and 424 lb-ft of torque from as low as 2,200 rpm to 6,250 rpm.

The engine is paired to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission system.  Further, the drive-train features an overboost function which pumps output to 536 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque.

Price and release date

Ford dealers in Australia and New Zealand had already taken orders of the Falcons Sprints even before the automaker announced official prices. The models have in fact sold off even before the automaker avails them in May. To make a kill out of the high demand, Ford hiked the Falcon prices by $ 6,500.

Therefore, 2016 Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint models with a manual gearbox start at $ 59,990 while those with an automatic gearbox start at $ 62,190 exclusive of destination charges.  The XR6 Turbo Sprint price, on the other hand, was hiked by a massive $ 11,500 to $ 54,990.

The models cost almost half the price similarly performing models sell in Europe. The automaker will build 550 units of the Falcon XR6 Turbo 50 of which will be sold in the New Zealand market. It is sad to see the legendary vehicle take a final bow.  According to Ford, all the models have already sold out even before production begins which goes on to show how much loved these vehicles are. All 550 models feature numbered build plates located on the engine.

Enthusiasts won’t find it hard to identify the XR6 Sprint Turbo among other cars in a parking lot. The model features a number of changes that set it apart from the regular XR6 Turbo. The new vehicle is made of lightweight materials including a huge percentage of carbon-fiber that makes it lighter and thus more efficient and improves its performance.

At the front, the vehicle features a similar grille as that of the regular XR6 Turbo. However, the grille is flanked by new headlights with black bezels. Below the grille are new fog-lights surrounds and air vents which are integrated on the bumper. On the sides, there is a new “Sprint” badge on the vehicle’s mudguards while the side mirrors are body colored and are integrated with indicator lights. At the rear, the vehicle features a body-colored deck-lid with a “Sprint” logo.

The rear also features a black rear deck spoiler. The Falcon XR6 Sprint Turbo rides on a set of 19-inch alloy wheels which are painted in black. The wheels are wrapped in 245 mm front and 265 mm Pirelli P-Zero tires. To bring the vehicle to a halt are 6-piston and 4-piston Brembo brakes colored in gold at the front and rear respectively.

Overall, the exterior looks quite aggressive. The vehicle is available in Solid Winter White with an option of Aero Blue, Smoke, Kinetic, Silhouette or Victory Gold shades.

The interior is however not as exciting as the exterior. Most of the styling is borrowed from the 2008 FG Falcon. The cabin is full of plastic surfaces, which is a big letdown by Ford. However, this didn’t deter buyers and reports from the automaker show that all the models have already sold out. The steering wheel controls still don’t feature back lighting. Nonetheless, the cabin still features some unique equipment.

The 2016 Ford Falcon XR6 Sprint Turbo features a leather or suede upholstered seats. The automaker has added an electro-chromatic mirror which was a reserve for the G6E and G6E Turbo. This feature makes driving at night easier.  The cabin also features a dual-zone climate control which helps keep temperatures ideal. There is a high-series audio system for audiophiles. The gauge cluster features a “Sprint” logo while the shifter is unique and has a unique surround.

For connectivity, the cabin features Sync 2 infotainment system which integrates a navigation system and Bluetooth connectivity.

Engine Specs and performance

Under the hood is where things get lively and one of the reasons the Falcon XR6 Sprint Turbo is sought by many. It is fitted with a turbocharged 4.0 L, 6-cylinder engine which is capable of producing 435 hp and 424 lb-ft of torque.

The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission system. The drive-train also comes with a 10-second over-boost feature which pumps up output to 496 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. With this power, the Falcon XR6 Turbo Sprint runs from 0-100 Km/h (0-60 mph) in 4.6 seconds.

The engine is complimented by fuel injectors sourced from the FPV F6, a larger intercooler, unique engine calibration and a lower-positioned carbon-fiber airbox.

Price and release date

As said earlier, all the 550 XR6 Sprint Turbo models have already sold out. Ford was selling the models at $54,990 before options. To take advantage of the sell out, dealers who have already bought the vehicles are reselling the models for over $70,000.

The models will be shipped to buyers throughout the year with the last model rolling out of the production line in October bringing an end to the Falcon lineup.

Shelby, on the other hand, added extra performance and style while Hertz offered the public access to the high-performance vehicles via their program dubbed “Rent-A-Racer”. The first vehicle was known as the Ford Shelby GT350-H. The model became an instant hit the moment it hit the roads.  In 2006, the three companies partnered again to produce the 2006 Ford Shelby GT-H which earned the same “rock star’ reputation as its 1966 ancestor.

Flash forward to 2016; the three companies are at it again. Joe Conway, the CEO of Carroll Shelby International said that the new model christened the “2016 Ford Mustang GT-H” is the most exciting Mustang ever to sport the Hertz black and gold livery. The model was launched on March 21, 2016 at the New York Auto Show.

The partners have repeated history again giving the new GT-H a classic and muscular look not forgetting more “juice” under its hood.  I bet the model will join its ancestors as one of the most coveted cars by classic car collectors.

2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H Exterior

The 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H has been hooked up with numerous bespoke features to make it stand out from the standard Mustang GT. However, it is not as aggressive as the GT350.

The first thing that catches the eye is its black exterior with twin gold racing stripes paint job. The design mimics the original Hertz “Rent-A-Racer”. Other features include gold stripes on the rocker panels along with the “Shelby GT-H” lettering. There are also several logos and emblems spread throughout its body. On the front fenders, you will find a Hertz Edition emblem. “GT-H” logos are featured on the grille, rear faux gas cap and on the trunk lid.

Further, to make it stand out from the standard GT, Shelby replaced its front splitter and rear spoiler with elements made with carbon-fiber. The engine hood is also specially crafted with vents and a big bulge at the center. To wrap up the exterior upgrades is a set of 19-inch aluminum wheels which are wrapped in high-performing Michelin rubber (255/40s at the front and 275/40s at the rear.

The interior of the new Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H is based on the standard Mustang GT. Only a few features sets the two models interior styling apart. They include “GT-H” logos on the headrests, customized sill plates featuring “Hertz Shelby GT-H” lettering and a numbered plaque on the dash.

The floor mats also feature “GT-H’ logos. These are the same features that differentiated the 2006 Shelby Hertz from the standard Ford Mustang GT. We understand that there is a “GT-H” logo on the engine, a rarity in rental cars. I bet this has been done to tell the 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H apart in case it is taken to a show probably by collectors in future.

Under the hood, the GT-H is motivated by a 5.0 L V-8 engine which also powers the Mustang GT. Shelby did not reveal details of its output during the launch. However, we can safely assume that the naturally aspirated engine will produce 435 hp and 400 lb- ft of torque just like the Mustang GT.

If this is the case, the vehicle will then hit 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and run a quarter mile in only 13 seconds. The partners didn’t announce the vehicle’s transmission options during the launch; nonetheless, a 6-speed automatic transmission is probable to attract many people to get behind the wheels.

The engine also features a cat-black exhaust system from the Ford Performance. This specifically gives the model a throatier sound. A “Shelby-GT-H” engine plaque is also added as well as an engine cap kit. The chassis has also been updated via the Ford Racing Handling Pack which helps deliver a race-like driving experience. The package adds lowered springs, special-tuned dampers and revised sway bars.

Rental prices and release date

Many enthusiasts were disappointed after Ford announced they would skip production of a new Raptor for the 2016 model year until 2017. However, they need not be saddened as Shelby is set to release a heavily modified Raptor that will make the stock Raptor look and feel conventional.  The new model christened the”2016 Shelby Baja 700” will however be extremely limited to just 50 units.

In all respects, the Shelby Raptor is a high-performing truck which pumps a whole 575 hp but Shelby took it to even greater heights. In addition to tweaking the engine for more power, Shelby has also upgraded several of the vehicle features. Read along to find out more;

2016 Shelby Baja 700 Exterior

Taking a glance at the 2016 Shelby Baja 700 immediately reveals it is not an ordinary truck. Straight away, one notices its tube frame which is integrated with LED light bars which make it look menacing. On its front area the truck features mesh guards which protect the LED light shells.

On the rear, the customization sees the rear bumper discarded in favor of a custom steel unit which features LED light pods as well as stainless steel rivets. The rear look is finished off with dual chrome exhaust tips placed at the right end panel.

On the sides, the vehicle rides on a set of 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in KO2 All-Terrain tires from BFGoodrich. Ford’s in-dash Sync infotainment system which integrates Smartphones and USB ports is left intact. Other retained Ford features include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a HVAC system as well as auto airbags and safety belts.

The interior is spacious and accommodates five passengers all enjoying plenty of head and legroom.

Engine Specs and Performance

Under the hood is where things get most exciting. The base Raptor rides on an impressive 6.2 L V-8 engine which produces 411 horsepower and 434 lb-ft of torque. Shelby took this engine and turned up its heat.

Shelby adds 2.9 L Whipple supercharger, a larger throttle body, a high-performance heat exchange, high-flow fuel injectors and a free-flowing exhaust system which pumps the power to a whopping 700 hp and 584 lb-ft of torque.

The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with 2-speed transfer case. Both 2WD and 4WD are available including a low range 4WD for multiplied torque.

This huge power means the large truck accelerates from 0-60 mph in just 4 seconds and can reach a top speed of 135 mph. The engine is further enhanced with a slip differential that directs torque to the front wheels and an electronic locking differential for the rear wheels.

Price and release date

The conversion from Raptor to Baja 700 doesn’t come on the cheap. The conversion only will set you back $ 45,000. The complete package including the stock Ford Raptor will cost around $ 85,500 and can go up if you want extras.

Unfortunately not many will enjoy this super performing and superfast pickup truck as only 50 units will be produced. Each of the produced models will be documented on Shelby’s official register.

Angry, Henry Ford II instructed his performance department to come up with a Ferrari “slayer”. The first attempt was a huge disappointment with the vehicle developing mechanical problems; in fact, the car never finished any race. Disappointed but not ready to give up, Ford turned to Shelby and sometime later they rolled out the GT40 and boy finally Ford had a real muscle car.

Shortly after its debut in 1966 Ford produced a shocking podium sweep at the 24 Hours of Le Mans making the car the first American race car to win at Le Mans. In so doing, the vehicle helped Ford get the better of Ferrari. The sweet victory helped create probably the most classical revenge story of the motoring world.

The GT40 would go on to dominate the race tracks winning it four times in a row at LeMans as well as achieve victories in other race tracks in the world. Now, 50 years later, Ford in collaboration with Shelby American, Superformance and Safir GT40 are set to release a new 2016 Shelby GT40 based on the original model in commemoration of the GT40 exploits of the late ‘60s.

The 50^th anniversary cars look identical to the original cars of the 1966. The designers paid a great deal of attention to ensure they got everything right. Every detail is included, from its rounded nose, muscular front fenders, the two scoops behind the engine hood, beefed-up haunches with cooling air intakes to the gold wheels; everything is as it were 50 years ago.

Even the Gurney bubble situated at the top of the driver’s side door is featured. Did you know that the roof bubble was added to create room for Dan Gurney? At 6’4”, the guy struggled to fit into the cockpit hence the creative roof bubble to allow Gurney’s helmet to fit in. Later the feature was nicknamed “Gurney’s bubble”.

The car can be had in three color trims according to the personalities who drove them. The first is the black with silver stripes i.e. McLaren edition, then there is the Ken Miles edition featuring Blue with White stripes and the Dan Gurney edition which features Red with White stripes.

Over 90% of the car parts including its steel monocoque are in fact interchangeable with the original parts.

2016 Shelby GT40 Interior

Just like the exterior, the interior is identical to the original vehicle except for a few alterations and additions.  The seats however lack the original bolstering while the center console is molded with a different shape. Superperformance has maintained the right-hand drive and right hand shift configuration just as the original car which am sure Carroll Shelby would commend. Smith-style gauges still remain.

The cabin has also gained some basic modern necessities such as  a new air-conditioning system, an adjustable pedal box, Carroll Shelby-branded mats, Bilstein shocks that come with H&R springs and a parking brake lever. Despite the new additions and changes, the cabin of the replica still looks authentic.

Engine Specs

The vehicle comes without an engine and buyers will have to look for their own engine However, the recommended unit is a 7.0 L, V-8 which is built by Shelby. The engine a Shelby aluminum-block 427 FE V-8 is rated at 625 hp.

Originally, the engine used to produce 485 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque. Each engine comes with its own badge stating the number in the limited series it is. The numbers start at GT40 P 20150 to 2069. Shelby will also list this particular sequence number in its own official registry since it is a licensed product.

Price and release date

To get your hands on the 50^th Anniversary Shelby GT40 you will need to spend $ 169,995 for the rolling chassis only. The engine is sold separately. According to sources, the engine will cost between $ 50,000 and $ 60,000. This means to get a complete car, you will need to spend in excess of $ 220,000.

If you have that dough you better hurry and make an order as only 20 units will be produced…wait a minute, I think you might have already missed the chance as these cars sell out moments after the an automaker starts accepting orders.

It’s funny how the team came to be.  Shelby and his friends Dave Witts, David E. Davis Jr., Tom Tierney and Neale used to vacation every year near the city of Terlingua and eventually bought a ranch in the area. Later, Neale came up with the black-and-yellow rabbit logo which Shelby decided to put on its racing cars and viola, the Terlingua Racing Team was born.

Unlike the 2006 Terlingua which was powered by a V-6 which didn’t go down well with enthusiasts, the 2016 Shelby Terlingua will have a V-8 under its hood.

The vehicle seeks to revive the spirits of the Terlingua Racing team that includes Jerry’s win at the 1967 Trans Am Series.

On the outside, the new Terlingua looks like the Shelby GT which made its debut in January last year. At the front, Shelby has replaced the Mustang grille with a Shelby piece of anodized front and lower grille. The stock bumper has also received a large splitter. The vehicle also features a carbon fiber Shelby GT hood with Terlingua vents. At the center of the grille is a jackrabbit emblem which has replaced the usual running horse logo. The same rabbit is printed on the bulged hood.

At the back, the Terlingua features a 2-piececarbon fiber rear diffuser, a carbon fiber trunk-lid rear spoiler, black exhaust tips of the Borla exhaust system and a carbon fiber taillight panel. The sides feature carbon-fiber mirror covers. The Terlingua rides on a set of 20-inch WELD racing wheels.

The vehicle comes in Terlingua’s classic black-and-yellow color scheme. Buyers will choose between yellow with a black hood and graphics or black with yellow hood and graphics. Further, the graphics package features a thick stripe on the roof and its deck-lid and some thin stripes above its side skirts and Terlingua Racing Team lettering on its rear fenders.

The vehicle also features the No. 17 and sponsor tickets on its front doors and fenders. The “17” was the racing No. of Jerry Titus when he won at Sebring in 1967. 2016 Shelby Terlingua Interior

Details on the Terlingua’s interior are still scanty as the automaker has only released a single photo so far. From the photo we can see Terlingua Racing Team floor mats and bolstered race inspired seats featuring the yellow rabbit and Terlingua Racing team lettering on their headrests.

Other features include a dash pod with three gauges and customized sill plates all with a carbon fiber trim. The vehicle also features a short-throw shifter. Since it is a limited-edition model, each will have a numbered dash plaque.

For those intending to take their Terlinguas to the tracks, you can opt for Sparco seats which come with 4-point harnesses; a roll cage is also offered. Most of other features are standard Mustang GT features. Be sure to check back later for more updates.

Engine Specs and Performance

The last Terlingua was fitted with a V-6 under its hood. The engine used to make 375 hp which was pretty impressive 10 years ago but would look conventional now. Now Shelby thought a V-6 would not be good enough particularly to the young buyers.

Therefore, to provide the younger enthusiasts with a more bang for their hard earned cash, Shelby has hooked up the new Terlingua with a supercharged 5.0 L V-8 which is paired with a Whipple blower.

The new engine pumps out over 750 hp. This power makes the Terlingua more powerful than any factory-built Mustang ever produced.  Shelby is yet to release other performance specs such as top speed and acceleration. However, we believe the Terlingua will make the 0-60 mph run in 3.5 seconds or less.

5.0-liter V-8 engine

Other updates include adjustable coilovers and an Eibach sway bar. It also features Ford upgrades which include a loud Borla exhaust system and half-shaft. Stopping power for the “beast” comes from a set of Brembo brakes.

Price and release date

To get a feel of the new Terlingua, you will need $ 65,999. This is just for the upgrades. You still have to dig deeper for another $ 32,395 for the base Ford Mustang GT.

Shelby is making only 50 units for the US market and 25 for the international market so you need to hurry up if you want to lay your hands on the wheels of the new Terlingua.

Competition

The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat will be the main challenger to the Terlingua. The Dodge is powered by a 6.2 L supercharged V-8 engine which comes good with 707 horses.

In the past, when one needed a vehicle that can accommodate a wheelchair, they would turn to a minivan or a full size van. Those days are now over courtesy of Ford’s partnership with the renowned mobility outfitter BraunAbility. The two have designed the first wheelchair accessible SUV ever. The model is christened the” 2016 Ford Explorer BraunAbility MXV ” because it is based on the current Ford Explorer. The partnership has helped the Ford Explorer further its promise to take people places they could not otherwise go; this is according to Ford Marketing manager, Omar Odeh.

Clever Exterior and interior design

The 2016 Ford Explorer BraunAbility MXV has given wheelchair users a completely new and stylish vehicle to choose from when shopping for a vehicle that is specifically tailored to suit their situation.

Actually, the BraunaAbility and the stock Explorer are identical except for the modifications. These modifications include the lowered floor which enables easy access by wheelchair users, missing front center console and the second row seats. Also, the swinging rear passenger door has been replaced by a gliding side-door which accommodates the “space saving in-floor ramp system”. The floor has been lowered and flattened to allow wheelchair users easy access to the cabin and good maneuverability once inside the cabin.

Depending on who is driving, the front seat can be moved to the front passenger side when the wheelchair user is driving or at the driver’s side when the wheelchair user is not the one driving. To enable easy and comfortable driving by a wheelchair user, the gear selector has been shifted from the center console to an adjustable mount which hangs off the lower dash.

The ramp is cleverly hidden on the Explorer’s chassis. The ramp is 28 inches wide and can accommodate a load of 800 pounds. At night, the ramp is lighted for easy access. Its surface is power coated with non-skid and a slotted finish that optimizes traction. It has a reduced elevation courtesy of the smooth transition plate that lowers the traditionally elevated joint.

The third row seats still remain meaning the cabin can accommodate four passengers inclusive of the wheelchair user. BraunAbility has fitted the vehicle with a remote key fob as well as a power-operated sliding door and ramp. This means wheelchair users will open the door and operate the ramp on their own without relying on others.

Except for the extended black-painted skirt at the rocker panel, once the door is closed the Explorer keeps its stock appearance and is identical to the regular Ford  Explorer you are accustomed to.

2016 Ford Explorer BraunAbility MXV Engine

As said earlier, the 2016 Ford Explorer BraunAbility MXV will be availed on the Ford Explorer’s Base, XLT and the Limited trims. This is done to give customers a wide range of features at different prices. The models will be powered by the same engine under the hood of the Explorer.

This is the 3.5 L, V-6 which produces 290 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission system that sends power to the front wheels. AWD is not available because of the lowered floor. The Ford BraunAbility MXV is EPA-estimated to return 17 mpg in city, 24 mpg on highway and 20 mpg on combined drives just as the stock Explorers with the same engine.

Price and release date

During the vehicle’s exhibition, BraunAbility remained tightlipped about its price.  However, we know that the model will be produced at the Firm’s facility in Winamac Indiana and will be sold in over 200 dealers in the US starting this fall. 2016 Ford Everest Exterior

The 2016 Ford Everest is based on the Ford Ranger but offers more than the Ranger in all aspects. The vehicle has a boxy exterior profile. It comes with a trapezoid-shaped grille which is flanked by LED headlights and LED DRLs.

The vehicle also features body-colored front and rear bumpers. The front bumper is integrated with fog lights to aid in poorly lit terrains. The rear looks fairly flat with Rakish LED taillights that give it a more stylish look.

In contrast to the aggressive-looking exterior, the cabin is totally different though horizontal lines similar to those on the outside make their way into the cabin. The interior offers a high level of comfort.

To start with, the SUV is offered in 8-way power adjustable and heated front seats. Other features include an 8.0-inch touch-screen, a 4-spoke multi-capacity steering wheel and the automaker’s SYNC 2 (SYNC 1 on the base modes) infotainment system which features voice commands, satellite navigation, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity and climate control among others.

The base trim also features fabric upholstery, 50/50 split folding third row seats, and an active noise control system while the trend adds leather upholstered seats, leather wrapped steering wheel and shifter, rear privacy glass, front and rear floor mats as well as a 10-speaker audio system with a subwoofer and DAB+. The top Titanium trim adds manual lumbar support on the front seats, ambient lighting and power fold third row seats with 50/50 split folding capability.

For safety, the Everest SUV features Blind Spot monitoring system, curve control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist forward collision mitigation, roll stability control and active park assist. It also features 7 airbags and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Engine Specs and Performance

The 2016 Ford Everest comes with three powerful engine choices. The base models will feature a 2.0 L EcoBoost 4-cylinder petrol mill capable of 250 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission system. This engine powers the vehicle to run from 0-60 mph in 8.4 seconds and achieves a top speed of 155 mph.

This is the only petrol engine as the other two are diesels mills. The first diesel engine is a 2.2 L, Duratork 4-cylinder TDCi engine which makes 150 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. This engine has an impressive fuel economy (33.6 mpg) considering its huge size.

The second diesel engine is a 3.2 L, Duratorq 5-cylinder TDCi. This engine produces 200 horses and 347 lb-ft of torque. The two diesel mills are paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission system which offers SelectShift manual mode. A well equipped Everest can tow as much as 6,600 lbs which puts it at the top of its segment.

Price and release date

The 2016 Ford Everest is manufactured in Australia.  The vehicle is already on sale in Australia, Thailand and Philippines where it is a huge hit will follow shortly and then the rest of Asia and Africa.

The automaker has not confirmed whether the model will be offered in the US but I bet it won’t. The SUV doesn’t come on the cheap even on the Australian market. It starts at $ 54,990 for the base trim and can go as high as $ 76,990 for a fully equipped Titanium trim.

The 2016 Ford S-Max exterior profile will be extensively redesigned. To start with, the model is based on a new platform. It will ride on the Ford’s new CD4 platform which the likes of Mondeo, Edge and Fusion ride on. Its looks fall in line with the automaker’s Kinetic design language which first debuted in 2011 on the Evos concept.

At the front, the model follows other Ford models in getting rid of the large upper and lower air vents replacing them with lower mounted vents. The 2016 Ford S-Max will be offered in three trims which are the base Zetec, Titanium and the top Titanium Sport.

The cabin will be roomier providing ample passenger and cargo space. Its dash board looks clean and uncluttered courtesy of the new SYNC2 infotainment system which will be standard on all trims. There is also a new one-touch hand brake in place of the previous airline-style joystick. While the front and second row seats offer plenty of legroom, the rear row is a bit constrained and is only suitable for kids.

The cabin is highly practical and Ford claims there are 32 combinations of cargo and passengers. With all seats up, the vehicle has 285 liters of cargo space. The space expands to 965 liters with third row seats folded and 2,020 liters with both the second and third row seats folded. The cabin will accommodate 7 passengers, i.e. 2 in front including the driver, 3 on the second row and 2 on the third row. The vehicle also comes with keyless entry and ignition as well as DAB radio.

Titanium trim adds satellite navigation and USB connectivity while the top trim features heated front seats. Customers can opt for the Titanium X package which adds electrically adjustable leather seats and LED headlights for an extra 2,000 pounds.

The automaker has given safety matters careful consideration; the model has even received five star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests. The vehicle comes with features such as stability and traction control, enhanced airbags and adjustable speed limiter to name just but a few.

Engine Specs and Performance

The Ford S- Max comes with an array of engines. The first engine is a 1.5 L, 4-cylinder unit good for 159 hp and 117 lb-ft of torque. The engine delivers a fuel economy of 36.2 mpg on combined drives.

The second engine is a 2.0 L, 4-cylider Duratorq unit rated at 118 hp and 229 lb-ft of torque. It returns 47 mpg on combined drives. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. This engine is also tuned to produce 148 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. It has a combined fuel economy of 47 mpg.  This engine has an option for a 6-speed automatic DSG transmission system. The automatic models return 43.5 mpg on combined drives.

The vehicle will also feature a 2.0 L, 4-cylinder Duratorq TDCi unit capable of 178 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. This engine has a combined fuel economy of 47 mpg and 43.5 mpg for manual and automatic models respectively. The Titanium Sport trim will be equipped with either a gasoline or diesel engine.

The gasoline engine is a 2.0 L twin-turbocharged, 4-cylinder unit good for 238 hp and 254 lb-ft of torque. It returns 29.7 mpg on combined drives. The diesel unit is a 2.0 L, 4-cylinder twin-turbocharged duratorq unit capable of producing 207 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. It has a combined fuel economy of 42.7 mpg. The engines will be mated with either the 6-speed manual or automatic transmission system.

All engines are offered in front wheel drive mode.

Price and release date

The new Ford S-Max will be availed soon during this first quarter of 2016. Though Ford has not yet announced official prices for the model, we understand that in the UK, the base model will have a starting price of around $ 36,000 which will go up to $ 52,000 for top trim models. American versions will be around $ 5,000 cheaper.

Competition

The second generation Ford S-Max will face major rivalry from the Citroen C4 Grand Picasso. The vehicle will also go head to head with the likes of Toyota Sienna and Renault Grand Scenic.
